Universal smart charger for NiMh\'s

Looking for some advice on a good quality smart charger.
I need a charger that can cope with AA, C and D cells.
2300, 4500 and 9000Mah respectively.
Which is the most cost effective smart charger available that will optimise these kind of batteries.
Obviously 9000Mah cells would take some time to charge with a unit which will only produce 300mv - So I am looking for something capable of pushing something close to 1 amp (Or am I being unrealistic).

I'm using an Ansmann Energy 16 it charges C & D cells at 1000mA, it's a very nice unit and will handle any combination of AAA, AA, C, D and 9V NiMH or NiCad. A little pricy but I'm worth it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm using the same one and I love it. How I lived with the ability to only charge 4 cells at a time I'll never know /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One possible problem though. It uses 1 multi colored led as an indicator and shows solid red while charging and solid green when complete. If you are red/green color blind this could be an issue.

Ditto. It is a longish thread, but it helped me a great deal. I ended up with an Accumanager 20, which has served me well.

Accumanager 20 looks exactly like my Vanson Speedy Box charger, different colors. Charges one to four cells, etc. Mine works great, and costs about $25.00. German made.

Both companies use the same box. The internals are completely different. Externally, they also seem to have a different LED scheme for feedback to the user. Some of the functional differences are covered in Zigzago's link above, IIRC.

Yes, there is a big long debate in Zigzago's link about what the difference, if any, there is between the Accumanager 20 and Vanson.

IIRC, there is a difference. The LED scheme is different, but I think that the internals are different.

My newly aquired C. Crane charger has been working top notch. I do like the informative display it has rather than a lot of chargers that used simple light that tell you charging or finished.

I'm still using both my Vanson speedbox chargers from www.amondotech.com with good results. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
All 8 Nexcell brand nimh D 8500 batteries still work perfectly with these $25 chargers and then in my Trilight3 at work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
These chargers appear to be geared for nimh, rather than nicad for some reason. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif
I have had a few low end brand nicad batteries bleed to death in just these chargers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

Both these chargers have done quite well with AAA, AA, C and D sizes.

Great info guys, Didn't realise there was so much choice.
I've decided to go for the Ansmann bacause its readily available over here in Blighty, and at a reasonable price. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
