Supposedly it will be an impressive illusion, due to the confluence of factors: full moon and solstice.

The effect is biggest when the moon is near the horizon.

It should be coming out a bit before 9 pm (NY/EST).

Hope these clouds clear up!

Figures, we usually like to be outside to observe the solstice moon....very cloudy and cool here right now. Not expecting it to clear :(

here is the solstice-full-moon and the Ohio River.

A cute time lapse video here shows how moon's appearance changes over time due to ellipticity of its orbit. Over the year, it makes some full moons look bigger than others.

Thanks for the nice pic, watt4! And also thanks for the time website, bigiron.

I did manage to catch a few seconds of the solstice moon last night, had to drive around to do it. The moon came up from under the clouds a few degrees above the horizon, but soon thereafter ended up in yet more clouds.

It was even so quite spectacular, not only large but also very orange.

I tried to take pics but didn't manage to get anything good in the end, so I really do apreciate the pic that was posted here.

Obviously, location is a big plus for sky watching, I guess I'm not in the greatest of locations--often get clouds and we don't have the endless flat lands and clear skies of the SW.
