I know it *should be* a 1W LS with 30mm optics but it gives my Lambda 5W LS SE a little run for its money!

Maybe Wayne sent me a 5W instead? I'm not sure...I will post comparison pictures in about 10 minutes and you be the judge.

Lemme just say, as most of you already know, the Elektrolumens Blaster II is first-rate. Fit and finish are flawless. It's an OEM quality flashlight for sure. I am extremely impressed and I don't get impressed very easily.

Kudos to Wayne/Elektrolumens!

I agree, just recieved mine today, and this puts an end to my M*g night sticks. Although larger than most lights discussed here, the run time and output make it my #1 replacement for the M products so many outside cpf favour.

First off, I just received my Light Meter, what is the standard you utilize for measuring Lux (distance, etc...)? Thanks!

Next, here are the pictures. From a naked eye standpoint, the Lambda MegaClopsSE is a bit brighter but the Blaster II does hold it's own.

I think Wayne has elevated the 1W to a significant new level with the new optics.

Re: UPDATED with Pictures: INCREDIBLE!!! Is the Elektrolumens Blaster II a 1W or 5W LS?!

Is it reasonable to assume that there is very little if anything else that can be done to a 1 watt Luxeon that would be 'better' than Waynes new Blaster II? I can't wait until mine arrives!

Nice beam!
I bought a 5W Cyan 5D Elektrolumens torch (it will be in next week) and am ordering Wayne's 30mm optic to mess around with the Cyan Nookilluminator. Have a light meter at work so, I will post what the 5W/30mm combo puts out. That all depends if I am still here though.

Small world, I did too (purchase an Elektrolumens Cyan 5W LS), from Carp Diem.

I definitely need...OK...want...NO!!!...NEED an Elektro 5 watter too!

Wayne are you listening?

Re: UPDATED with Pictures: INCREDIBLE!!! Is the Elektrolumens Blaster II a 1W or 5W LS?!

Hey S4, are these Cyans? For some reason I thought they were supposed to be whites yet when I looked at the pics...

Amazing what is required to bump the visual effect of brightness to the next level, isn't it? They look close in the pics, yet one is about twice as bright...

Try this -- set your meter for the most sensitive reading (x.xx) and place it face up. Shine each light at the ceiling (from the same height below, and at the same spot on the ceiling) and compare readings. You'll get a better idea of the brightness of each.

Re: UPDATED with Pictures: INCREDIBLE!!! Is the Elektrolumens Blaster II a 1W or 5W LS?!

I went to the bathroom, turned off the lights and I measured...
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Smart CPFer! I didn't go to ther bathroom first, so when I measured my Blaster II, I almost peed in my pants!

This is a serious light, I had to go back and re-read one of those "How LEDs Work" things again to convince myself it was safe to shine this sucker on things without danger of melting them.

Good job Wayne!

Thanks for the tip Mr. Bulk, I'll be right back...

P.S. Both are whites.

jeez, i'd ask for some refunds! those are the greenest whites i've seen

Re: UPDATED with Pictures: INCREDIBLE!!! Is the Elektrolumens Blaster II a 1W or 5W LS?!

Mine is a shade green. Not that it matters because it's so bright. But if you shine it at a white wall against, say a KL1, then yeah, it does look pee green...

Re: UPDATED with Pictures: INCREDIBLE!!! Is the Elektrolumens Blaster II a 1W or 5W LS?!

Roth: they are not that green, it's the nice bathroom paint that reflects. I'll take some better shots when I get home.

Mr. Bulk, I did another reading, a bit more than 1 meter out but completely fixed:

Blaster II: 1,900 Lux
MegaClops SE: 3,300 Lux

And yes, Mr. Bulk, the pictures can be deceiving, I think at night, the difference will be more noticeable. Regardless, what you all have done with the 1 Watt LS is incredible. Kudos to you all!

And then comes the 5W 'Zorch', soon to be revealed!

(The Zorch is actually a shorter version of the Blaster II. But I cannot call everything a 'Blaster'

WOW!! That is one amazing flashlight! I'd never thought that the Blaster II is that small considering it takes 3D batteries. Excellent job Wayne. I am thoroughly impress!

Re: UPDATED with Pictures: INCREDIBLE!!! Is the Elektrolumens Blaster II a 1W or 5W LS?!

S4MadMan,

Could you possibly try an experiment with your light meter? I don't know if it's just wishful thinking or real, but it SEEMS to give the Blaster II an added little boost if you take a small strip of aluminum foil (3/8" - 1/2" wide), and place it around the collimator inside the head (shiny side toward the center, of course). This also seems to work well with "sandwich modified" 2AA's, as well. It's a lot easier to place in the Blaster II, however, since the head is not tapered.

I, and probably many others, would like to know if the aluminum foil actually benefits the output, or not.

Thanks.

Bucken, I'll go home and try that. I'll post the results...tomorrow.
