Upgrade from P2D for EDC?

I've carried, and loved, a P2D for 5+ years now. I, more than likely, would have been content to carry it for 5 more years had my 18-month-son not decided to hide it somewhere that's known only to him. I figured now would be an excellent time to upgrade as I hunt about the house for the lost light. :D

With that as background, I'm looking for a light that's roughly the same size. Increased runtime and increased brightness would be welcome upgrades, but what I really want is something that will prove to be just as reliable and just as tough. Clips are not a deal-breaker in either instance - if the light has one, fine, and if not, fine, also. I do prefer tailcap switches, but if I can be convinced to go with another light that exceeds all my needs save the switch then I'm all ears. I "think" I'd like to switch over to AA batteries, but again, if the light is perfect in all other ways then this isn't a must.

tl;dr version: lost p2d, need something similar.

Aaahh... The P2D, my first quality LED light. I still have it and, apart from an inductor whine, it still works flawlessly.

Fenix has since rolled out the successor of P series with PD series. If you don't mind still using CR123A, check out PD22, the latest successor to the P2D.

Switching over to AA batteries will make the light longer, and you won't get as much output as CR123A. If you don't mind those drawbacks, LD12 will do just fine.

Another line of lights that I would recommend is the Quark X Pro/Tactical. If you get the Quark X low-voltage head, you can lego it with either CR123A or AA battery tube and switch form being able to use off-the-shelf AA for economy or CR123A for output.
