Hi all,

This is my mule.....that spots a Cree XR-E led with nice creamy tint.

Mind you, as it is, I love this light. This is my 1st McGizmo light that I bought directly from Don and my second McGizmo after the PD-S HA (bought from a fellow cpf'er). Love the compact size, even flood light and very useful at close quarters use.

With the current led offering, XP-G, XM-L, Nichia etc would it be better off with a led upgrade? Would the existing electronics be capable of driving newer leds? If I were to change the characteristics of this light, I wish I could get more lumens with the same beam angle and cooler running setup.

Do you guys/gals think this is feasible/ Doable since we all know that the PD era has come and gone?

Any comments is appreciated....

If I could do any mod to that light, I would install 3x Nichia Hi-CRI emitters in it. Best. Mule. Ever.

The age of the electronics doesn't matter at all, the only thing that matters is the voltage.

I would go with WARM XM-L at 1A or XP-G highCri at 500~800mAh.

I love that MULE PD. My ultimate favorate I one day hope to own.

Nice head on that mule.... different to the current offering.

I like the sound of the three high CRIs
Yep, this head sits on a pd body and so not so lego friendly like the current offering. Not many waves was offered during its time but I was lucky to obtain one. There is the all black version which came from Don's stables and if i am not mistaken only 4 was produced.

The current drive levels are 525/25 mA and due to the small head and pd body, heat transfer is not like rhe other designs. It gets really hot after 10 mins on high probably why a mizer option was also offered during the waves.

There were 3 AlTiN Mule-PDs. I have one also. Just happened to load the page right when Don posted the sales thread. Mine is a mizer. I think the Mule is the perfect candidate for the Mizer option. I generally prefer the non-mizer option in lights with reflectors.

I have been quite impressed with how the AlTiN coating has held up to several years of use. I don't baby it, and it has seen substantial carry time.

Because the Mule-PD is so short, I find that I almost never use the PD feature with this light. Occasionally I will, but I mostly just use it as a twisty.

Newer emitters will generate substantially less heat running at 525mA. The Law of Conservation of Energy requires that as the lumens per watt goes up, the waste heat per watt must go down.
