Has anyone tried using a Solio solar charger to recharge CR123As?
I am thinking of using it on extended camping trips for a SteriPen UV water sterilizer, but can't find a small CR123A charger that connects with a USB plug.

Here are the specs:
Solio Classic

  • Nominal DC Output: 3V 2A
  • Maximum Wattage: 6 Watts
It has some proprietary connectors for cell phones etc, but also has a USB female plug available.

The setup needs to be very lightweight, and I don't care if it only charges one battery at a time.

TIA!

There may be no such thing. This site provides over 50,000 hits for 'USB charger', but as soon as any variation of 'RCR123A' is added, it returns 0 results:

If you want to use CR123A cells, your only option for an extended trip may be to utilize primaries and, for a backup, carry the SteriPEN Solar Charger case equipped with a couple of reputable RCR123A cells:

Another option would be to opt for the AA powered SteriPEN and one of these Solar Chargers equipped with the Eneloop low self-discharge NiMH cell:

Either should provide you with a realistic amount of solar energy, with the former providing a mobile booster option via its USB port.
