Use your small flashlights as headlamps.

I have been adding elastic bands to the Zebralight headband so that I can use my Microstream to give me more throw than the H501 can. Then it occurs to me that the Microstream can work as a headlamp fine by itself.

The original idea was to wear both for flood and throw (not much from an aaa light but still more than what the H501 can throw). The Microstream is held inside the elastic band, as shown.

But clipping the light to the elastic band is more flexible and useful

The light can now be pointed at various angles for greater usage flexibility

I have used the Microstream as a sort of headlamp and it worked just fine. However, being a single mode light all that light is waisted if used for reading in bed, up-closed task in the dark, etc. A multi-mode light would be better yet. For me EDC is about making the most of what you have. Now I can use my small flashlights hand-free.

Very simple and innovative addition. I just picked up a new Nite Ize headband to do the same thing with my D10 (though the non-elastic construction isn't near as comfortable). I'm glad you found a handsfree solution that works for you.

I made my own.

Made with Planet Bike quick cam as flashlight holder. http://ecom1.planetbike.com/3104.html

Bolted onto head strap apparatus I can no longer identify the source.

Right on it has AA MTE flashlight on it, a bit narrower so I had to use shims. Currently waiting for CR123A flashlight to arrive.

Here is my EDC/emergency/blackout light setup with the headband and 2 lights. I carry them in my shirt pocket everyday. Since my goal is compactness and efficiency for EDC carry, I am always looking for ways to make it smaller and lighter. The headband can be made even thinner. You don't have to use some fancy and expensive headband. A sport sweatband with an elastic band wrapped around will do just fine. I can also use a small single aa light for more run time and lumens. The EZ AA would have been perfect if it had 3 modes. In the meantime, the new Maratac aaa light looks like a good replacement for the Microstream.

My entire light setup next to a medium size wallet, which in itself is another EDC setup.

Microstream as reading light in bed. This light has a yellowish hot spot. I like this tint. If the warm version of the new LEDs is anything like that, I will be getting one. The hot spot is not a problem at all, as the picture might seem to suggest.

Zebralight H501 on medium as in bed reading light for comparison. There is no hot spot. That makes things a bit easier to read.

Made a thinner all black headband today. The middle elastic band is for the H501 and is not movable. The other movable elastic bands are for small flashlights or extra batteries.

Thinner and lighter than the Zebra headband

While camping when I was lazy to grab my headlamp from my tent I actually put a hat on high on my head along my hairline and tucked a Fenix E01 or my Ti Sapphire under the brim and had the light pointing down in front of me. Pretty secure in a pinch even doing stuff around the camp.

Have been using my Akoray 106 as a headlamp for a few hours. It's great, probably the baddest $21 headlamp I will ever have. This light has enough throw and power for bike riding. Again clipping it on the outside of the elastic band will offer more positions than putting the light inside the elastic band.

If this not a good reason for light makers to include a clip with their lights, I don't know what is.
