using a Z2 tailcap on a G2Z-L

I tried to use two different Z2's tailcap on a G2Z-L and it physically would not screw on. It would go on 1/2 a twist and then completely stop. It would not go any further.

However, G2Z-L's tailcap worked fine on the Z2. It was "loose" in that it was very easy to turn. But it did fit.

I thought these were compatible??? Is it only compatible one way but not the other?

Or is there something wrong with my G2Z-L host's threads?

Thanks!

Charles

Must be a variation in the manufacturing process. Just tried this with 2 different G2L and a 6PL tailcap and it threaded on just fine and vice versa.

They are supposed to be interchangeable - take a look at the threads of your Z2 tailcap and see if something is obstructing the cap screwing into place.

Admittedly, I'm not sure why you want a Z2 tailcap, but they should fit just fine.

I just checked the threads on the G2Z, nothing wrong with it that I can see. I've tried a tailcap from a 6P as well and that didn't screw on either.

Hi Dioni,

How did you end up getting it to work?

thanks!

I didn't. I preferred not to damage the G2 nitrolon threads. The problem, I think, is the M2 head threads since it presents the same issue with a Leef body I have.

PS: If I use a little force I believe it should fit as well as in Leef, but...

I tried using more force, but then it got stuck. Ending up using a towel with pliers to get the metal tailcap back off.

So far, I've tried tried metal tailcaps from a Z2L, Z2, C2, and 6P and all had the same problem.

I was hoping to put a corded pressure switch on a G2, so I did this as a test. Now I'm not sure if I'll get a G2 since I would think that it would be a G2 as well as the tested G2Z-L.

thanks!

How old is your G2Z? the orignal 02-03 ones had slightly different threads in the tail than the newer ones. I notice this issue with some of mine, but I'll verify tongiht.

The G2Z-L is brand new. It is the latest 80 lumen version.

thanks!

I have an older Z2 and the part of the switch that gos into the battery tube is wider than the G2Z switch. Mine actually screwed on okay but did not function correctly.

Odd - Size 15 will probably be able to expand in some detail on that.

The M2 head is not G/P/C compatible - you have to get an adapter to make it fit.

ETA: I just swapped the tailcaps on my Z2 (new) and G2L and the metal cap worked just fine on the G2L. Weird. I also swapped the Z2 tail with my G2ZL and it still worked.

Hmmm.

I wonder if the threads on my G2Z-L is out of spec. Thanks for trying it on yours.

makes me feel better that mine is not the only one that doesn't interchange correctly.

Why not? What adapter?

PS: They are compatible!
Here is my G2 with a M2 head [This is another G2 body, not that mentioned before of course]. It's just a little example, there many others in CPF.
