Variable output??

I keep seeing these threads where people are saying that Peak is coming out with variable output heads. Is this true?

I see that the Everest is supposed to be variable output but it has been advertised for quite a few months now and still isn't available. Have any of these lights actually been made yet or can anyone say when they will be available?

If they do, I'll sell every other flashlight I own and get more Peaks.

The RMSK website has changed the descriptions of the K2 and the Everest as well as their availability (now February). It seems as though something is happening...

+1

The Logan and El Capitan are great lights, if they become available with multiple outputs--it would make flashlight shopping a no brainer (as long as you know exactly what you want)

Pick the Logan and figure out what max output you want (1 to 8) Throw on a 2AA/1AA/CR123 body on (your choice) Pick aluminum, brass or stainless (your choice) Do you want a tail switch with that or twisty (your choice) What kind of beam do you want so specify optics to fit (your choice)

A multiple output switch with a listing of power levels that drive the LED to parallel the numbers specified for output would be great.

I talked to curt on the phone the other day and asked him about this. He said that he has been looking at a switch for multi output.
As I understood his explanation it was a 5 position twisty switch that goes off-low-medium-high-off. This means you could have it in the off position set to go to either low first or on the other off to go to high first!
Still a twisty though but maybe a push button could be worked in somehow?

I asked him if I should standby before ordering in anticipation for the switch and he said no. Said they are busy and they still have to work it out.

If there is one thing that has stopped me from buying more Peaks is that they are all one level. (Runner up is the confusing website and product lineup, but they are starting to address that.) The top notch fit and finish of Peak on the other hand keeps me interested.

I'm not saying Peak should make the full switch to complex UIs with PWM controlled levels like all of the Chinese brands but a resistor controlled two (or even better yet three) level switch would be a welcome addition.

The selector ring noted above sonde fantastic - better than I could ever expect.

I agree compleatly!

Anybody have a computer controlled multi-output switch yet?

What is the UI, number levels, drive at each level (how low is low?), how do you switch between levels, etc? I am torn between a Logan and a Pyrenees with the multi-switch. My Rainier is getting lonely.

I was looking at those two same light last night but was curious about the switch.

The lack of output variability is the only reason I've had no interest in Peak lights and this would definitely make me buy at least a couple, depending on how they implement the UI.

I called RMSK he said that there is a variable output switch available for the K2 and the pyranese.

It does low, medium, high and strobe. He said it also has little blinking light that flashes as a locator.

He said the threading will with the everest but there is no computer in the light for the switch to work with.

Any idea if this is going to trickle down into the smaller lights?

Also, I'm still unable to find anything talking about what different output levels may be available... Maybe time for someone to call Peak and get some actual details... :D

From speaking with Bob he related that they are still looking.
Issues with getting small parts that had long and reliable life cycles.

I asked recently about the lack of variable output on the smaller lights and they explained that they could not find a reliable potentiometer small enough. This makes sense as I would rather have a light with no options than one with options that would not last.

But why limit the hardware to potentiometers? Are computer circuit boards not reliable enough? A lot of other companies use computer boards. I know they use a little bit of the battery to power the electronics but I don't think the draw is that much.

I ordered an el capitan anyway but I am just wondering. I know that a couple of the larger pocket lights have variable output switches but not the direct drive ones.
The el capitan and logan are not direct drives though right?

And yeah the faces are kind of creepy. Not to mention they slow down the page for people who don't have faster internet which might make some of them not spend time to read about the flashlights.
Just a suggestion.
