Vintage E2 Executive too valuable to use?

Hello all, I'm mostly an LED guy, but recently picked up a really nice condition E2 Executive in beautiful silver with the round body, twisty tail cap, tear drop bezel, and clip riveted to the bezel. Great little light, I'm just wondering if I should use it or sell it to some collector. How old are the E2 Executives that have the riveted style clip? Didn't they go to an allen screw to hold them on to the bezel later? What do you guys think, gently use it, or trade it for some cash and a current E2E?

They did use the allen screw, I'm not sure if it was earlier or later though. Or if it was in production simultaniously with the rivet screw heads. My best guess from my experience using them is that the rivet screw heads were a little later, but around the same time. There wasn't a big time span in there. In mint or excellent condition they have a bit of collector value, but I wouldn't force myself from gently using them around the house. Some of the rarest E-series lights are the handful that were made in Black HA with a twisty style lock out tailcap, the HAIII camo E2e's, and the tear drop bezel lights with body mounted carry clip. I've only seen those in gun metal gray like the finish of your light, but some probably exist in natural HAIII finish as well.

Nice light, E2's are my only EDC. If it's not new in box, use it. Since it's really nice, use it gently and don't mod it, it will work great as long as batts/lamps are available. CPMkt and Ebay as I've witnessed, if it's not mint/nib/nos, then it's just a used "XYZ". The exceptional and rare are different.....SRTH.

Love the SureFire E2 lights. Perfect size and form factor for me. IIRC, the original E2 lights had the allen screw...at least the first E2 I purchased in/around 2001 had an allen screw. Most of my subsequent E2 purchases were adorned with rivets (but some of the E2 lights were from CPF members, so they could be older than my original).

Size15s is the one who would know the answer.

.

My E series "collection" includes E2e and E1/E1e lights, plus KL1 heads.
