I'm a new guy, I haven't read a fraction of the info availabile here. What I have read is awsome, I've learned quite a lot, and I know I will continue to learn. I've read about throw, spill, etc. I've read about brightness, lumens, etc. My question is, How far can a "good" light be seen? Can it be seen for thousands of feet? miles? from ships? planes?
Just a curious thought.

How bright? Miles & miles? Straight line? I've been told past six miles "horizontal" you go below the curviture of the earth. ????

Not super bright but you can easily pick it out in the dark as a point of light.

3-5 miles is a good possibility. This was discussed in an earlier thread, I will go try and hunt it up for you.

I live in WV, there is no place to stand and have flat ground for 6 miles!

The interesting thing you can do with LED's is set them to strobe or send an SOS automatically, which can be seen at night for a number of miles.

But if you want a true rescue device, the signal mirror is still king during the day, with the record for signaling a rescue being 105 miles.
