DIY'd first light last week. Light body is an old plastic vitamin container. A 6v mr11 bulb 10w 10 degree sits on the bottle neck with the screw lid holding the bulb in place. I've cut a circle out of the lid, and inserted an o ring to seal it in. Bulb is in a dichroic/gu4 socket with fuse.

For mounting I took an old rear light and removed the clip, and this was bolted to the bottle body. This allows the unit to be attached / quick released to cateye h24 or h27 bracket which allows tilt and left/right adjustment.

When the light is in use the body glows yellow but produces an usable spot light.

Heat could be a problem due to plastic body, and dichroic bulb. Still testing the light.

Is the heat profile (heat through rear) from led identical to dichroic bulb?

Any mr11 led dropins out there that won't melt the body?

LEDs conduct most of their heat out the back, and are most effective in an enclosure that can transfer that heat to the outside. A plastic bottle won't do that.

You may be able to find an LED MR11 that physically fits and none of them will cook the bottle, but the LEDs will cook themselves in the bottle.

Does anyone know how much light exits the rear of mr11 bulb ?

Are they projector bulbs ?

note still awaiting camera for pics

THis is an example rather than the actual. I used blue (which may be a problem legally). Is there a standard for this bottle size? Rather than trial and error because some vitamins are rather pricey!
