VW Led lighter flashlight

This light is designed for the VW Touareg and comes pre-installed if you order the non-smoker package. I've ordered one directly from VW as a present for my dad who drives a Touareg without the non-smoker package. I'd say the light uses one 5mm Nichia, and it has a lens similar to the Inova X1, the beam is also very much like the X1's, but not quite as bright. Still a nice addition to the car cause you always have a handy and fully charged little light at hand when you need one. Perfect for looking for the car key that slipped out of your hand and vanished between the seats. On the other hand, in the Touareg, you don't have to actually stick the key into the keyhole. You can put the key on the backseat or leave it in your pocket and the car will know it's there. Just press that large chrome button to start the engine and get on the road... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

BTW: The metal case is very long for a 'lighter', meaning it will short-circuit most lighter sockets of other cars, including mine... But I've read somewhere on a forum that there are at least some other VW models that can accommodate this light.

I assume that light has a non-replaceable Ni-MH battery in it and a dumb trickle charging set-up. If the continuous charging doesn't kill the battery, then being stored in the brutal heat of the car will definitely kill it before long. Then you will have a very expensive and completely useless flashlight. I think there are better options for having light at the ready in a car.
