Walking the Dogs at night

In the market for high quality powerful light for walking the Danes at night. Walking through forest and unlit fields and allow them alot of freedom to explore. Good throw if they wander too far, and a good flood for closer proximity in the trees. Usually walking out for between 90mins and 120 mins. Budget less of a concern than reliability and durability. Already have stock of 18650's , but have not looked closey at the market for some years so a little overwhelmed by the current choices. thanks.

What's your budget? You may want to look in to some of the solarforce flashlights like the L2T or anything in that line and get a p60 drop in of your choice. They take 18650's and are cheap. For p60 drop ins there are lots out there and most can be bought online... check out customlites (AKA nailbender on this forum) or search for vinhnguyen54 on this forum to see Vinh's latest offerings. I'd think a solarforce body with a nice floody p60 flashlight would be a great combo for walking the dog.

Anyway, if you're not up to putting together your own light I've heard and read great things about the zebralight SC600 MK II. Keep in mind the advantage of lights that take p60 drop ins is that you can change out the led and upgrade as time goes on or your preferences change.

Saying that budget is less of a concern is very dangerous around here.

A 6P bored host that takes 18650 is certainly a good way to go. I have a bored SF 6P from Oveready with different dropins. I also like Malkoff hosts and dropins/heads. I have a Hound Dog N on a MD3 that is fine for walking on L and a quick twist of the head gives you higher output and throw. These hosts are more money than a basic Solarforce, but are worth it IMHO. You need to pick a dropin/head that will work with your chosen cell - the Hound Dog will not run on a single 18650, but there are plenty of dropins that will.

Check out a Solarforce L2T/L2M/L2P and grab the P60 drop in of your choice. Nailbender (Customlites) is an excellent P60 builder and has many options.

A Sunwayman V60C can throw light out to 1000 feet. The V series lights from Sunwayman are variable output, there is a ring on the light that turns so you can dial in the output you want. This is fairly big light, it takes three 18650's, and the grip diameter is 45mm or 1.77 inches.

The C20C from the same company is a 1inch grip diameter single cell light that shines out to about 400 feet (139meters) and would fit in most jacket pockets.

What ever light you choose as soon as you go out in the field you will quickly find the usefulness and the limits of that light. Consider carrying 2 different lights or using a diffuser for up close flood and taking it off the light when you want it to throw.

Lots of high output throwers out there, but the 2hr. run-time is the kicker, I think. Maybe a perfect application for a Malkoff Neutral Hound dog with a 2x18650 MD4 body. That would be wicked! Plus, it has two levels: low and "light-saber". :)

i made this for my dog, i use it when i'm in the woods. i see him very far away. i also build one like that with rgb strip and controller, i can make my dog light up in any color and have them flash\strobe as well.

Alpg88...very cool. That looks like it took an awful lot of sewing. The commercial ones I've tried on my shepherd were not very bright and we're not very visible from afar.

Just a thought....at night bright lights shined near me or at me are blinding. Our eyes (mine) adjust to the low light levels in minutes, not seconds. I suspect the same for dogs.

Would low light or no light be better to walk a dog but have a light capable for search as BrightBeam requests?

I'll second the Malkoff Hound Dog, and add look at an Oveready Triple dropin. Fivemega has 2x18650 C series compatible bodies. :) Even on high, your runtime numbers would add up to what you need.
