Okay. I need some Glow Sheeting, or some glow powder. Not a lot, just a bit. Say, about 1 Sq Foot of sheet, or a few grams of paint.

Every single website has an astonishing $50 minimum to Canada, plus shipping.

I would never use that amount of sheeting in my life.

Anyone out there have a bunch of sheeting/powder they'd like to dump (at a profit!) email me at:

[email protected]

Thanks!

Hey! PhilAlex has a good point. If nobody has any to part with. How about a few of us trying to establish a group buy with a particular company that sells this stuff?

We don't have to necessarily ask for a group discount. I was thinking of just basically splitting the costs.

Actually PhilAlex.... After reviewing some posts about glow products i remembered that a fellow CPFer has a review site that reviewed glow sheeting from Extreme Glow.

His name is Quickbeam, and his review is site is calledQuickbeam's LED site

If you follow
this link, it will take you to Extreme Glow's website. Browse their catalog and you will find that they sell a sheet of glow material for 6.00US per linear foot - 19" wide. And their minimum order is $25.00US Their shipping to the US via priority mail costs a minimum of $6.00US. I don't know how much it costs to ship to Canada though.

Also, their online ordering is only to US customers only. BUT they do have an international phone number you can call. It's 662-841-5644. And they accept credit card AND money order.

If it gets too complicated with them, I MIGHT be willing to risk the trouble of placing the order for you and shipping it to you. ALSO, if 25 dollars worth of glow material is too much for you - i'd be more than happy to split the costs.

Just to let you know. Nichia manufactures a product that may be of intrest to you. It is called Ultra Glow. It is in a powder form and when charged with light for about 10 mins or so it will glow for approximatley 15 hours. You can find a little bit of information on there Japan website. www.nichia.co.jp or you can call (717) 285-2323 (Nichia USA) and ask to speak to someone about Ultra Glow. Im pretty sure they do not have a minimum quantity and shipping will be very cheap to canada.

I believe the glow powder you are talking about is the same as what can be bought at extremeglow. Is this correct? I don't believe there would be multiple types of strontium-aluminate/europium powder, other than color variations (green, blue/green, blue)....

I suspect there may be other manufacturers because of the variability of my samples collected and bought over the last 6 years. Luminova, Lumibrite, Neo-glow etc. The latest stuff (from x-glow), I believe is Nichia. These materials have improved noticeably over the last two years. The retailers do not seem too knowledgeable about their sources, or even how to best mix/use their products

Also, there is a very noticeable difference in performance depending on which Color you selected.
Example:
green=brighter initially
Blue/green=harder to charge up, but considerably more persistent in afterglow-and that goes for the "stick-on" types as well...
Copper salts are added to give the Blue types that "stay-ability" that the green just does't have...
Finally, as stated before, in darkness, green fades to dull yellow, while the blue/green fades to what appears to be "whiter" (against the background of darkness-considered "black")

Thanks Quickbeam for the new link. I apolagize for getting it wrong the first time, and i also apologize for not asking your permission first.

Anyway, you guys bring up such interesting stuff! I've always wonder if that glow powder really existed! For a long time now, actually, the last time i saw this kind of stuff was 8 years ago during holloween. This guy was scaring kids by sprinkling this glow powder stuff around his yard. I've always wondered how he did that becuase it was SOOoo bright! Even under street sodium lights!

Anyway, what exactly do you guys use this powder for? I would like to buy it just out of curiousity, but after i get it, i wouldn't know what to do with it. I've always liked the glow sheets becuase i can tack it unto something.

Well, one person has emailed me at [email protected] offering to split a $25 order.

(I mean, 4 feet X 1.5 feet of sheeting??? C'mon!)

Email me if you still wanna get in.

I want to use it for a buncha things:

1) I want to fill the logo on my Honda Keychain with the Blue powder so it will glow (And I can find my keys when they roll under the bed!)

I was also thinking of filling in the Dime sized disk in the back of my photon with it, too.

I want to put some on a weight on the end of a string. Attach it to the doorknob in my hotel/motel. If I see it swinging at night, someone's trying to get in.

I want to put a dab on my black Honda Civic antenna, so I can find it in a parking lot!

So, I'm not going to need YARDS of the stuff!

Check out some of the stuff on ebay after doing a search under "glow powder"! See what you think and let us know if it's a good deal.

A little furher info....
I just got an email from Frank A. Yohe-II, the U.S. sales rep. for Nichia "Ultra Glow" this morning...
As I have posted before, I've mixed and used the powerful luminous powders for almost a year now. (See earlier threads). -Absolutely amazing results when used properly, and btw-white LEDs will make these materials glow brilliantly in the dark, and the new keyring UV lights work even better. -Way brighter than my H³ Tritium glow-rings (for a 7-10 minutes, at least). Could still read a page of average print in a book after about 35 min. in darkness.

I have two small packets of the mix left. 1-Green and 1-Blue/Green, and I charged them up under a cool white fluor. bulb for 5min. and put them away in a totally dark place. 48 hours later, I took out both packets in a dark room (with eyes adapted to dark-15min), and could easily see them both glowing. The green was a dim yellow, and the Blue/Green had a brighter soft white glow-after 2 days in darkness

After 6 hours in the dark, the blue/green paint mix is about 20% more powerful than AlienSkin, and 60-70% better than the still-good "stick-on" sheeting that Doug P. (Mr.Q-beam) wrote a helpful report on...and it's eeaaasy to use. Still 80-100 times more effective than the old zinc-sulfide glow from the past. -Did I mention that I'm impressed with these materials?

p.s.-Mr Frank Yohe II can be emailed at: [email protected] , and phoned with the # Jrocks gave above -with Ext. 153.

There are actually many different kinds of strontium aluminate powder. The really long-lasting stuff is doped with europeum and dysprosium. These can be applied in different quantities to adjust color, durability and brightness. I actually started a chain of discussion on Nichia's powder over in the dealers section.

No need to ask permission. It's there for everyone to use/reference/enjoy!

Oh yeah. Let me add that I would split some Nichia powder with someone(s) on a group buy.

PhilAlex:

I live in Thunder Bay and would love to split a shipment of the sheet (preferred) and/or powder. Let me know.

I would love to split an order of some of that Nichia ultra glow powder with some one from Canada!
I emailed Frank from Nichia America and he stated that he has some sample amounts (100g!!) available on this side of the big blue. The kicker though - its like $100 USD for 100g... (about $160 CAD plus duty/tax)
I have 1 other person that I work with that would be interested in some... Any other takers?

Me !!
I'd like some of the blue/white powder to vcal-ise as a paint, (or whatever).
Not the greenish coloured stuff though.
Is there any good white glow available ?

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Interesting question-S.R.-What I have found and what the sellers tell me, after making many comparisons, is that there is a kind of trade-off between long glow duration vs. brightness for the powders.

Most persistent: blue/green
Next, (brightest at first)-green
" , (less brightness) -yellow
" , (less bright yet)-white,

These were listed in order of descending persistence, informally measured by luxmeter over a period of 12 hours. Of course, new formulations are coming out all the time...:O
Hope that helps....

*something ridiculous ?, MY, OrBy. I can go for a split on the Nichia powder but I would like the green per vcal's description of brightest/most persistent. Or, heck, blue/green. Any indiglo? I love that color.
