I am gathering the parts to mod my Vistalight Nightstick Code 15 bike helmet light to use an MC-E and Ledil EVA optic. I can fit the optic (perfectly), the LED on a star screwed to a 10mm heatsink in the light housing. I want to retain the option to use the NiMH 6V (7.2V fresh) battery packs since I have three of them, one of which is a newer higher capacity one, so I want to know if wiring it 2S2P and running it direct drive is the right way.
I will eventually want to run it off 2x 18650 wired in parallel (7.2-8.4V).
I was planning to just run it direct drive, but the voltage change during running the 2x18650 pack may cause a big change in current and therefore brightness, and I don't want to run it at 3Amps at the start - I'd rather regulate it to ~1.2 Amp @ 6.5V (2S2P).
1) Will DD 2S2P with series 18650's work well after initial voltage drop?
2) Is there a driver I can use with MC-E 2S2P (~6.5V output)?
3) Should I set the LED up 4P parallel (3.2V) and run a resistor with the 6-7V NiMH packs, then DD parallel 18650's?
