This is a turn of the Century Eveready Flashlight. It is nickle plated brass with no dents. And it works. Now the beam will not blow anyone away but it really is not that bad for an almost 100 year old bulb and light. The pictures do not do it justice. The pics were taken by a Casio Credit card camera and I do not know how to turn off the flash and it does not like to do closeups.

Ok, now here is a beam shot, remember I do not know how to turn the flash off. Look Maglite, no artifacts.

hmmm, it is not as close to the ceiling as it apears, I don't understand the optical illution.

Now here is the size comparisons.

Now here is something really pretty.
This is a much newer 1920's Era polished brass light but it does have some dents in it...and it works too...wooo hoooo.

hmmm, wonders why I do not see flash marks on the one on the table...*scratchs head* I really do need to read a manual one day.

IIRC at one time you were considering modifying (or having modified) one of these beautiful and rare antiques. I'm glad you seem to have changed your mind about that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There are some old lights that I wish I still had access to, like my great grandfather's 5 cell, but alas, no one thought they were worth anything and they are long lost.

JonSidneyB,
I think your light is cool! I, too, have a bunch of antique lights. Most of mine with the "bullseye" lens throw a wide flood beam useful to about 20 feet or so. Nowadays, people don't realize what a revolution early flashlights made in a person's life. Imagine having to light a candle or lantern every time you wanted light! How many fires got started that way?
By the way, is yours an Eveready or Eveready Daylo? If it's an Eveready, it was made about 1913-1916; if a Daylo, about 1917-1921. You've got a keeper! I'm glad you posted your pictures.

all mine are 2d.
only mod i would do was rebase the [email protected] amp pr bulbs into screw bases and run them on 5 ah nicads.
when i got these folks thought they were just old junk.
less than a buck each.
one nib dated 1903.

The only "antique" flashlight that I've ever used and would not modify would be the Eveready Big Jim, a sealed-beam lantern with a flashing red light on a stalk. There was one on Ebay not that long ago, but I didn't have enough money to snipe it at the last second. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif
I think I snuck away with a couple of pictures of it from the auction page, but that's pretty much it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

(Edit) Here's the link to that flashlight. It'll stay good for a couple of more months, then it'll get yanked.

Hmm, I really like that one. Guess it would be easy enough to put a better bulb in there, which could easily be swapped back for the old one at a later date. Therefore giving a more useful light, and preserving the 100 year old bulb...which I would be terrified to use.

That is a nice beam though.
