I was just reading the instructions that came with the Pelican M6 Lithium and discovered something very dissapointing! The warranty does NOT cover "....sharkbite, bear attack or children under 5."

Bummer!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/santa.gif

I know which one of those can do the most damage, quickest, and with the most likelyhood. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon6.gif

Hello Roy,

That does it... No Pelican M6 for me. I can excuse the children under 5, but am constantly involved with sharks and bears.

I wonder if the ARC 10 year warranty covers those issues?

Tom

Roy,

For a paultry $3.95 anually, you can get a rider to cover those additional risks. Feel free to PayPal me and you *will* be covered! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

some warentys cause me to chuckle like a flash light thats able to survive 200 meters underwater well if youre flash light is 200 meters under water i belive you would have other concerns

raggie,

Not if it's illuminating the bait on your hook and you're trying to catch the mysterious giant squid! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Tom,

No Way! But insurance is a numbers game, right! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Besides, in the fine print, I said Roy would be covered. I have no plans to cover the light. I'm not really sure what Roy would be covered with either now that I think about it. Couldn't be much; not for a measly $3.95.

It is refreshing that Pelican was able to slip that warranty stipulation past their legal department though! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's funny. I ran across that while looking at the instructions for my little 1010 boxes.

Those bears are pretty tough, but what if the new pet decides to find a chew toy other than the couch?

Edited to make more sense...

I know that this was meant as a joke, but this brings up an important issue regarding "water resistant."

There is a difference between "static" and "dynamic" pressure. If something says "200 meters," this means that it would survive if you slowly and carefully lowered it down on a rope. If you have it on you and are moving around a lot, the actual depth would be much lower.

As an extreme example, tie something up to a rope and tow it behind a ski boat going 30MPH and it just might leak due to the force of the water hitting it, even though it is not submerged. This is an extreme example of "dynamic" pressure.

Pelican has had that in their warranty for as long as I can remember. In fact, back when there was a concern about Skylab falling out of orbit, they added "decending space debris" to the warranty for a while. Pretty funny.

I started this thread because I thought we could have some fun with their warranty statement! I love companies that have a since of humor! ....sharkbite, bear attacks, 5 year old children, falling space debris....gotta love these guys! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

Roy,

I have to agree with you completely! I have had the pleasure of dealing with a few people at Pelican and they are all pleasant. The gal who answers the phone every time I have called gives the best and friendliest "phone" I have encountered. I have been in communication with one of their engineers and the fellow is a real gent, through and through. In some brief OT conversations with him, I can tell that he is a person I would like to actually meet and consider as a friend. If my limited exposure to "Pelican" is any indication of the larger picture, this company is staffed by folks who take business seriously but not to the extent that smiles aren't part of the dress code. From what I can gather, they have their priorities in order; to everyone's benefit.

A wonderfull bird is the pelican,
His mouth can hold more than his belly can,
He can hold in his beak,
Enough food for a week

I'm damned if I know how in the hell he can!
Dixon Lamier Merritt

There's got to be a story on why they named the company Pelican! That's one ugly bird! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

True, they're not the prettiest bird in the sky, but you have to admit, they are very graceful flyers. Take offs are sometimes problematic and the landings can leave something to be desired but they seem to do well anyway... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
