Stay Away! I'm warning you! I also came here by way of Google, looking to fix my Stinger I use at work every night. Now I own a bunch of custom Mag-Lites that cost more than a car payment! (actual dollar value withheld in fear my Wife will see this!):stupid:
 
Welcome and great first post! Next, I see a Milky, McGizmo, SPY007,or other custom in your future. That's when the addiction really starts and you just quit carrying a wallet.

Don't be too upset. . . . even our more expensive flashlights are cheaper than firearms.

It is always fun to see the reaction of the unenlightened when a tiny flashlight no bigger than a child's finger outshines dad's big black Mag-Lite. . .

yeah. we all hate the others in here. they all are enablers for the addiction. feeding and alluring feeble minds with bright things. and like a moths to a flame we go.

welcome to the weird bunch.

i blame google for my joining in.. i needed a xmas present for myself, couldnt decide what i need so i chose to pick a flashlight, then i googled for good flashlight and ended up in this confusing maze called cpf.. felt dizzy for next few hours trying to read thru the threads.. didnt understand.. so i left..

came back next day to try again..
and the next day..
and then decided that these guys know their stuff.. they have to, as i cant cypher half of what they say.. (those acrynoms etc)

and bought my 1st led light. simple to use and powerful and rather reliable and good value said cpf people.. so i got myself fenix tk11.. and since i got it i have fought the addiction with mixed results.. more losses than wins. i seem to need to wait for the post to bring a flashlight to me atleast once a month.. and preferable several evenly spaced .. atleast one package in 2 weeks or so.. hahh...

this month has been good for me.. only one actual flashlight bought.. next month.. sigh.. atleast one i think is again a must.. the 3 mode itp AAA (its pretty much same as the maratac)
 
Know the feeling, I had about $2k just in Milky L1's. Sold a few, it's insanity I tell you. Met some good folk and learned alot too. So your in good company.
 
Yes Indeed - And if you didn't pause in front of the hardware store flashlight displays most of your life, you're probably not here.

Yeah a bunch of mechanics where I work have 2D M*gs and thing they're something else! Until I pull out my dark little light that they think is a MiniM*g and it totally blows them away!

Of course my little light says "Jetbeam" on it! :crackup:

I can relate. I hated this place for a little while, then I just decided to hate my wallet. :devil:

Now my lights are worth more than my vehicle, and I'm getting into making my own customs....

yeah, it usually works like that around here :)

but hey, at least we have another Ohioan here now... EDCF, USN, HERE, it's tough, every time I start reading I end up looking for something new.

Honestly lately I've been VERY satisfied with my edc light set up (novatac 120e, orb raw ns, E01, and an eagletac T10L in winter)... But once again I'm looking at going back to a AA edc for a while. Hmmmm... Knives, I can't ever seem to settle on.

Good first post. I'm out of work at the moment so am able to restrain myself from buying more lights but that will change soon as soon as i implement the 2 is 1 theory. You remember the movie "Quest For Fire",, yah well things haven't changed much around here.

I came here looking for a single bright 2xAA light a couple of years ago. Thanks to CPF I now have the following:

Fenix L2D CE
Fenix LD20
Fenix E01
DBS V3 w/3SD Q3 5A
Quark AA regular/neutral
Quark AA tactical/neutral
Streamlight TLR 1
Dorcy 120 lumen tactical
too many other insignificant flashlights to count

This is madness! How did I get here?:eek: I was in denial for a while now but I am officially out of the closet.:poke: I read up on CPF for almost 2 years to gather knowledge and just finally registered within the last month. CPF, the place we hate to love, or is it the other way around? lovecpf
 
Yeah - you lurk for long enough till you think you know what you need... And then everyday there is a new post of something you never knew exisited that you just must have..... lovecpf
 
This is an exciting time for this hobby. There are manufacturers and modders that design their whole product lines just for what CPFers are asking for. The size of this forum allows for folks with lots of different areas of expertise so products are getting better and better every day. We have folks designing their own circuit boards and regulators, people milling thier own lights and bezels, and cpfers lining up buy them all. This forum's appetite for the latest and greatest and the market share that this forum represents for the flashlight industry has certainly fueled most of the advances in LEDs over the past few years.

Some advice? Buy a few quality lights based on your usage and hang on to them for a while. Maybe choose one or two battery types and stick with lights that use those types. Also, don't spend $500 for a titanium light that has an LED that will be outdated and outperformed within a few months.

What have I found to be the most satisfying? I like Surefire incandescents, but the most satisfying purchases are upgrading them with custom parts and pieces from CPFers. Making a light as versitile as I can with multiple battery options, lamp options, regulated, unregulated, incan, HID, or LED is also extremely interesting and satisfying. A Surefire 3 cell light is a good start along those lines. Good luck!
