I have some AW 17500 1100mah protected cells and a WF-139 charger.

I have only charged the cells 4 or 5 times in the few months I have had them. They have never been ran down, mistreated, or left on the charger longer than the lights go green. I don't have a multi-meter.

With one of the cells the charge is holding green for approximately 5-7 seconds and then flashing red for 1 second.

I hope this isn't an indication that my cell has gone bad already...

Yes, one cell will blink properly and stop blinking when charged.

The other cell stays green 5-7 sec. and blinks red once.

If the $11 AW cells are going to malfunction on me for no reason after VERY LITTLE use I may as well use UltraFire.

A defective cell will turn up once in a while no matter what brand you use,I and many others i am sure will stay with AW batteries as they seem to be the best available..Ditto on the multitester get one..

If you don't have a multimeter, how do you know it is the cell that is faulty? You have no way of knowing. It could be the charger.

It might be the charger. I have read that the WF-139 charger can over charge near the end of the charging cycle. If you are using a protected cell it should not be a problem but if the protection circuit is always kicking in, that can reduce the life of a cell. A digital multimetre would be a good investment.

The cells are protected. I can swap the cells in the charger and the blinking light is always on the bay of the same cell... They will not illuminate my 9P.

The good cell has come off the charger at 4.18v and the one that blinks red/green is at 3.99v.
