Hi
I've got a 12v cigerette lighter plug for the car, and some jacks that fit the WF-139 12V socket. The 12V plug is rated above what the charger needs, anyone see any reason why I shouldn't just solder them together and make myself a free WF-139 car lead?
Thanks
Tom

Make sure you are good at soldering. Soldering wires to those jacks can be fiddly.

Make sure you get the polarity the right way round so you don't fry the charger.

Probably include a fuse in the lead for extra safety.

But other than that, it should work fine as long as the WF-139 or other device takes a 12-14 V DC input supply.

what he said, the fuse, or fused plug.
they sell them finished on e-bay

most of todays newer cars are highly regulated, with a few spikes and a bit of noisey power, but WAYYY back like 1975 and earlier, the auto could pump out as much as 16v when the alternator is supplying the power. so if you had a way old car, you might check the max voltage before sticking it in.

also watch out for Parked car Heat , with the sun blazing in when charging IN the car.

Don't worry about the current. It says 400 ma on the back but that means minimum 400 ma. I run mine off my emergency power supply which is a bank of 270 AMP cells connected to deliver 12v - 13.8v. That's enough current to weld with. :faint:
