I have an opportunity to get a Surefire M2 and was wondering what, other than the obvious, can be done with one (mods, aftermarket stuff, etc)? Can you buy LED mods for it? Etc.

I remember Arcmania sold a P60 replacement drop-in led module some time ago.
I'm trying to get a led module to replace a N1 in a kt-1...

For production LED conversion options, both the KL3-HA and KL5 will work (giving you a 1-watt and 5-watt luxeon, respectively).

For modification, the KL3 is much easier to work with than the KL5. It is fairly straightforward to boost the output power and replace the NX-05 optic with a 27mm reflector in the KL3. I don't think anyone has successfully opened a KL5 without destroying a significant portion of it, so mods for it are rare.

There is also the McCapsule, which is a drop-in used in the stock M2 bezel.

I really like the M2 with the McCapsule. It also works with any other classic-series light (6P, 9P, C2, C3, Z2 etc).

Weird, the inline images aren't working. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

tylerdurden: i haven't been browsing CPF in a while, so i'm rather out of touch with the latest developments. the McCapsule looks interesting...how much is it, and what are the specs on it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You need to change "image" to "img" in the tags, then it should be ok.

Agreed, the McCapsule looks interesting. Did you build it yourself and did you have to do anything special to get it to fit the SF, or can you just follow Don's instructions and have them work for the PM6 and SF M2?

Itchy fingers are looking at a SF C2/6P and wondering whether I can roll my own field upgrade with a 3W Luxeon /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Grr, still can't get the image tags to work. Whatever.

Yes, I built this myself. The one in the picture is actually a prototype reflector that Don made for me, and isn't for sale, though it's probably indistinguisable from the threaded McR-27s available from the shoppe. I can build McCapsules for you if you're interested, PM me for details.

BTW, the McCapsule will not work in the PM6. The Mc*Module* is the widget that fits in the PM6. The McCapsule fits in the Longbow (though it won't work with the stock longbow head, IIRC).

Tylerdurden,

Do you know how does it compare to stock KL5? I have a KL5 for my M2 and does it make sense to get the McCapsule unit you told us about?

I have not seen a KL5 in person. If I personally had a KL5, I probably wouldn't bother with a Luxeon-V McCapsule, but a Luxeon-III McCapsule might be worthwhile. It should throw farther and run longer than the KL5.

I understand that they work pretty well in places where the sun doesn't shine!

Pjandyho, you want to compare the McCapsule unit to your KL5? Can you wait till end of next week? I have a threaded reflector coming in, also need to solder a extra spring on my McCapsule to make my SF 6P-GM into a THROW MONSTER feeding on 2xRechargable123.
