My new Ra 120E came today and it was great until I started messing around with it.

I can't do a factory reset anymore, and now all I get is a locked on morse code that goes like this: .......- ...- ...-

Did I just break my new light? Please help me:candle:

Danny

edit: what the heck did I do to the title!

LOL, I fixed the thread title for you. You can't put icons in it, so the code appeared there instead.

To your question: I think you have somehow turned on SOS mode, but I'm not sure as I don't have a Ra. No doubt someone will hasten to advise you how to return it to normal!

Did you reset it by removing the battery for 60 seconds?
Are you able to get into the options menu by triple click and press hold?

I would suggest doing a factory reset.

Have it emitting light in some mode.

Unscrew the battery compartment.

Screw it back together FAST. As soon as the battery makes contact it will have a dim light.

Before the light turns off, press and hold the button (you only have 5 seconds and it has to be screwed entirely together for it to work) until the light gets bright, then turns off.

That will get you back to factory defaults.

Sounds to me like you need to back the tailcap off just a little.. In other words, screw the tailcap in 'till it stops turning, then loosen it just a bit. That should solve your problem I think. Let us know.

Thanks for the replies!

DM51, thanks for fixing the title.

Here is the problem, I can't get the light to reset. It doesn't respond to anything I do. Strike that, the switch doesn't respond to anything I do. For a while all it would do when I tried to reset it would be come on at a medium setting and then turn off. Then it would come back on like .......- ...- ...-

Now, I have messed around with it so that it acts like a two stage twistie. It stays on all the time at a low setting with the head backed off slightly and when twisted down all the way it jumps to high. I can't toggle through any of the other modes by twisting it, though. The only way I can turn it off is to take the battery out.

Try taking a small piece of paper and putting it in between the tip of the signal wire and the side of the battery case. (in the slot that's cut into the inside of the tube.) Then screw the cap down and see what happens.

the ......-....-...- thing seems to me like the info code that appears if you hold the button down after a reset, to tell the user which version of software it's running. Probably happening because the signal wire is making contact someplace it shouldn't be.

I have tried all the suggestions in this thread so far and I haven't seen a change in the light.

When I put the flashlight back together, I can do two things;

1. Screw the head all the way down. It will come on for about 5 seconds and then turn off. After a delay it will come back on in that weird flash pattern. It will cycle through this repeatedly. Light does not respond to any amount of clicking. Light will not turn off without removing battery.

2. Screw the head all the way down. It will come on for about 5 seconds and then turn off. I then back the head off about half a turn and the light will come on in medium. I can then tighten the head all the way down to go to the high mode. I can toggle through only these two modes by tightening or loosening the head. Light does not respond to any amount of clicking. Light will not turn off without removing battery.

To me, this sounds like the switch is in some way stuck in the on position. That may be wishful thinking though, as I really hope that I didn't mess up the driver.

Am I correct in assuming that the only way to factory reset this is with a switch?

Is there any way that I can test the switch?

Danny

Yes, certainly -- just use a VOM set to Ohms and check for continuity between the spring and the threads. When the light should be ON, you should see continuity, When the light should be OFF, you should see an open circuit.

I just checked the switch using a cheap battery tester and a battery in the light tube. The meter indeed says the circuit is completed in both the on or off position.

I was reading LLCoolBean's UI flow chart and the binary code flashing is predicted if the switch is locked in the on position. What I don't understand is where the two stage twistie came from?

Can I safely say that I didn't mess up the driver?

And if it is the switch, is there any way that I can fix it?

Thanks,
Danny

I thought I should give this thread some closure:

I have contacted Mr. Schneiker and everything is being worked out.

Thanks to everyone for helping me figure out what was going on.
