I just got my Raw NS used. I love it!! I'm just a little confused about the light engine it has. It looks different than all my other cree led's since it has a yellow coating all over it. It appears to be direct drive on high and has a 20 ohm resistor for low. It also does not have the copper heatsink I have seen on some. Is this the R2?

It is Cree XR-E LED packaged in USA. Unfortunately there is no way to tell if it is P4, Q5 or R2...

It is a Cree XR-E that looks to be at least a year old. Most likely a Q4/Q5.
Most if not all R2's only have the phosphor coating on the actual die.
Also I started using a new style low contact pin 6 + months ago.
Heat sinking is taken care of via the reflector. The copper heat sinks became obsolete when we moved from Luxeon to Cree.

Thanks for the info Rob. Now I have an excuse to buy some LED's for upgrading :twothumbs
