Last night, while on duty, I dropped my W.E. Explorer (from about 2 1/2 feet). I picked it up and it would not turn on. After swapping batteries with my backup light, it worked.

The battery I was using was an Ultrafire 3000mah 18650. (The new one in the red wrapper) It now reads 0 volts. It was less than a month old.

Any ideas what to do or what went wrong? I need a light that can withstand being dropped from a short distance. The Explorer is awesomely rugged... I need a battery that is the same.

Any ideas????

Thanks in advance.

No outside damage on the battery. Looks brand new. Wasn't hot when I switched batteries with my other light.

The protection circuit was probably damaged by the mechanical shock of the light hitting the ground. Batteries are like heavy weights that can slide up and down the battery tube. When the light hits the ground the light stops moving but the battery continues and tries to crush anything in its path.

I think the designers of "rugged" lights often fail to include adequate rubber cushioning and shock absorption for the batteries.

+1 I have had this happen to me with cheap cells.

If you feel adventurous you can remove the protection circuit and test the cell to see if it still functions.

I know exactly what went wrong... Ultrafire cells are erractic at best. **** poor Q.C., plain & simple. In the same batch of cells, you'll get ones that work perfectly, ones that won't charge up at all, ones that will charge up but won't hold a charge even for an hour, and ones that will do a combination of all of the above.

If you go to an insane asylum, you're likely to find better stability there, than with a batch of Ultrafire cells.

Don't misunderstand, I have an Ultrafire WF-139 charger that works very well. Does a good job of charging up my AW 18650 cells. The Ultrafire cells I had... it couldn't even charge them up. The problem was definitely the cells, not the charger. That's a Hell of a thing... Charger and cells from the same brand, and not compatible.

it starts with an 18650 stating "3000" mAh, because that is not possible atm.
Cheap makes, ridiculus claims to mekt them "better" than the competition to have a selling argument.
Customer gets what has payed for.

PS: that it got damaged was plain bad luck. If the light would have hit with an angle of just few degrees more/less, nothing might have happened.

The protected board of the battery is obviously not shockproof:thumbsdow. The maunfactory should do something to solve this problem. Cheap cell?? I don't think so. The ultrafire 3000mAh P is not cheap in price.
