What kind of LED is this?

This head lamp was recently purchased from Home Depot for $4.95 and is AMAZINGLY bright! It is advertised at 1watt and uses 3AAA batteries.

Is there anything I can do to make it brighter? where can I find these bulbs?

If you think that light is bright, just wait until you try a "real" LED light. That one is a rather dim generic one.

some cheap crap on a round base,
exchange it with a Seoul P4 on a round base

and put "[" "URL" "]" in front of Your photo links and "[" "/URL" "]" behind it

Just picked one up for the kid. Couldn't resist the price.

It is comparable to the lux1 generation dorcy lamps. Not quite as much throw as the Garrity lux1 or brinkman, but probably more lumens (I would guess 45 to 50 lumen per watt.)

I got tail cap reading of 180 milliamps on low and 340 on high. This means about 2.5 hours on high and 4.5 on low on 900 milliamp batteries.

The color redition is worse than the lux1 (didn't think possible), and on cold purple side, but for the price tolerable. The "star" has Zhong Sheng printed on it and more looks like a cheap rebel knockoff than anything else.

The build quality is better than the $10 cree or souel DX headlamps. The elastic band is short like the dx lights.

But for $20 you could buy all your family or friends a 4 hour running headlamp, or buy a shell that can be modified.
