Hey everyone, just wondering what lube you all use on the threads/ orings of your lights? What are in my sig atm could be using a little tlc, esp the twisty and the TK11 which are my workers.

Remember I'm UK so please try to reccomend something I can buy over here!

Matt7337,

I am not sure you can buy this in the UK but if you can go for Nyogel 760G Is what is mostly recommended around here.

Good Luck!

There are about a million threads about this already, as I am sure half the people on these forums are going to point out to you shortly (it seems to be a right of passage or something).

I use Nyogel 760g. However, the only place I know that it is available from is Lighthound, and they are US based, and I'm not sure if they ship overseas.

Yep - they ship overseas all right. I've had no problem buying stuff from them.

Is this really that important to where it has to be specific?

I thought silicone lube was fine and I have some for my at home Eliptical to lube the track and wheels. I used it for my Surefire and it seems to work fine for me.

I also was thinking that since I am into RC cars they use silicone oil in the shocks which is 100% pure so it should work just as well on the O-rings. There is also another product for RC meant for O-rings to keep the sealed to the shock shafts which probably would be great.

Maybe I am just not on the up and up with the flashlight crowd but if this stuff is good for O-rings on my $2k RC car I am sure its just as good for any O-ring on a light.

I'm aware that there are countless other threads about this, so I apologise for posting another... but i really didnt know which to use. I heard a while ago that petroleum based lubricant could damage the orings in a light, and that silicone based was the way to go.

I am also into RC racing, and use silicone oil in the shocks of all my cars, as well as the likes of boca lightning lube in the diffs and gearboxes, but was not sure how suitable it would be for use in lights. I think I'll try and get my hands on some nyogel... even if I have to order it from overseas, I can get some RCR123's and other stuff to make up an order.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Btw Brian what car do you run? I mainly run a Mugen MTX 4R and an XRAY T2, but have other race prepped models in 1/10 too :)

Nyogel

I use Nyogel 760G for my non-twistie lights, Nyogel 779ZC for my twistie lights.

Xray as well but have the off road stuff EC. Been into my gun hobby big time now and put aside the RC for a bit so have not bought anything new on the market.

As for the lube I dont see how the RC silicone if it is made for O-rings will mess up a flash light O-ring but perhaps you all know something I dont. If its silicone then I read that is all that matters and I know that is all it is so am I missing something?

Has anyone tried KY?
It never seems to take very long before dumb suggestions start appearing in lube threads.

Fair point. There is a very useful thread which tells you all you really need to know: Lubrication of threads & O-rings. It's included in the "Threads of Interest" sticky at the head of the page. This one can close.
