hi-i have a 4C cells size maglite and i was wondering what sort of mod options there are, and what difference they make... ?

I also have a UK SL6-that it probably not worth changing ?

also-i am going to europe soon-any torch/laser/led items that I shlould look out for there ?

larry (australia-we have prime minister 'howard' sort of a 'mini bush' :-)

You can do a nice 7 watt mod using a white Luxeon V LED. The beam will be super bright. You need a regulator, LED, heatsink and some soldering/cutting. That's it!

Or use a Luxeon III and a resistor. As to what resistor someone else will have to answer that. I run my Mag lites / Hotlips / Luxeon III on three cells.

As for mods, first thing you need is a Hotlips heatsink. Nothing else matters if you can't get the heat out. You can get that from Hotbeam.

LuxIII with resistor is probably the scariest, especially considering how much it costs in Oz dollars.

LuxIII with a DownBoy set to 800mA (or even 1000mA if you like living on the edge) from the Sandwich shoppe, or LuxV with BadBoy set to about 900mA. You can probably use the stock reflector if you have side-emitter LEDs. And a bit of sputter will smooth out the beam tremendously.

As for the SL6, I'm working on a design that will replace the plastic head with an aluminium one (for good heat transfer). Since I'm planning it to be good for both SL4 and SL6, the electronics should ideally handle stepup and stepdown, or be interchangeable. We'll see how it goes. I just need to save up for a mini-lathe.

And once I get that lathe, I'll also be able to build a replaceable head for Maglights. Even simpler than drop-in mods, with enhanced heatsinking properties. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just need that lathe! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

kings park should be great-as long as the people in the parked cars don't think we are perving on them :-)
especially with some of that 'covert stuff' from harris tech :-)
