my thermoter thats outside aint working i assume the batts got to cold?it is like 20f outside. acording to waether chanel. ive replaced em already but they soon quit repsonding

Yeah. Alkalines don't like the cold. I learned that with my Streamlight Jr luxeon. The boost circuit won't even come on with cold alkalines. It stays in my car so it gets cold.

I put NiMH in it and it works great though. Lithium AA would work too but they are $$$

Not sure at what temp they stop performing well or quit alltogether... I guess they can freeze too since they have liquid in them...

It depends on the current draw. I would guess that much below 40F or so they're really limited.

I have an outside temp sensor that transmits the temp and humidity. A set of 2 AAA's alkies runs about 2 years. It's worked fine down to -10 and lower.

On the other hand, I wouldn't expect them to give much light if you had, say, a PT Tec 40 or other light which would drain them dry in 2-4 hours.

There must be a temp current curve somewhere that shows what the current drop (or equivalent increase in internal resistance is) by temp......

Sure there is:

Energizer Temperature Effects.

OTOH, it seems that warming 'em up brings 'em back to life....

its weird it just went offf again.it came back on dureing the day time when it was warmer i saw it last i checked was 31 now i check and it wont transmit

I haven't tried it lately, but I think the batteries will come back to life if you bring them inside for a while. It's been down to zero with the wind chill and I was thinking about leaving some lights and batteries outside for a while to see how much of a difference I notice.
