I bought a $15 or $20 China light off Ebay based on a recommendation from this forum (IIRC) but gave it away. Now I can't remember the name of it to replace it. It took CR123s or 3 AAA batteries, had a bubble lens, and a very square light "bulb". It was focusable and very bright. I think I bought it from Chinaqualitygoods on Ebay.

Thanks!

Hmm, Solarforce's can be had for around 25; but they don't have the aspheric lens, or focus heads.

I bet you had the x2000 or one of it's variants. You can find much better lights on more reputable sites like shiningbeam or lighthound plus they contribute to this site. I also like dealextreme myself but with a word of caution that any lights from dealextreme may require work to make reliable.

can't you just check your order history on ebay?

I think the light you are looking for could also possibly be the romisen rc-c8

'Very bright' is pretty relative. I bet that it was some X2000 as mentioned.

They are pretty impressive lights considering their cheap price.

Actually ALL flashlights that are power LED use "square bulbs". An LED is a square that has 2 wires attached to it. So when you focus the flashlight you see a square shaped light with 2 'holes' on the bottom left and right.

Most lights have reflectors and don't focus like that so you never know that the LED is square shaped. The flood to throw are an exception.

On EBAY, look for "adjustable focus cree led zoom". You will find a whole crapload of them.

It's almost exactly like the X2000, but would take either AAA or CR batteries. It irritates me that I'm having such a tough time remembering what it was. I bought it months ago on Ebay, so I can't look it up beyond 90 days.

Got it, it's the MXDL CREE Q5. You would recommend a different one? I liked it since it worked well and was around $17 shipped. If I lose it or give it away, I won't cry about it.

I would have preferred the Romisen version that can use 3xAAA or an 18650, and maybe 2 CR123s. However, shiningbeam seems to have removed it from stock at the moment.

I have some incoming ones that use 3xAAA and with an extender ring to use an 18650. They are 8.39 each with free shipping.

I was also pretty happy with the X2000 that I got from DealExtreme. Its 3xAAA only though and came with a bike mount for 12.30.

It's available, in R2 LED.:twothumbs

Yeah it just came out!

I'd recommend this light. It costs more but will be higher quality with a warranty. The XR-E R2 has a very tiny Die which means it throws a lot better than the fatter XP-G and even XP-E emitters.

It is also able to use 3xAAAs which is great for non-flashaholics, though you can use 3 NiMH rechargables too. You can also use an 18650 or even 2 CR123s.

Actually the xr-e has the same EZ-900 die as the xp-e. Older xr-e's had the larger ez1000 die but newer one's have switched to ez900 which is better for throw. The difference is the optics of the xr-e offer a smaller apparent die size, the xp-e does have slightly better optical properties though for better beam quality and slightly more efficiency. XP-E's go up to the R3 bin whereas xr-e tops out at R2.
