What was your first PEAK purchase and where/how did you find out about them?

Mine was at a local Cutlery/Gear store- probably in 04 or 05. They had one PEAK Kili single LED in the plastic bubble pack on the wall. Guess that is how my flashaholic obsession began.

My first Peak was a 5-led Kilimanjaro, ordered off their <old> website. Yep, Peak was also involved in establishing my flashaholism, though it wasn't my first good light ever; but, ahh, I believe it was #2. :) #1 was a CMG Infinity Ultra from a sporting goods store, and I was quite pleased, but later decided some more output would be useful. I found a crazy website called flashlightreviews (a whole website just for flashlights??), and read about the various Peaks from there.

Peak Pacific from Brightguy back when he carried them. I ended up not really liking the AAA body so I got a AA and a CR2 body for it - love the versatility and it still produces a useful beam with a lot of runtime in the AA configuration. I keep pondering dropping a SSC P4 into it but haven't had the guts to try to pry it apart.

I was living in CPFburg at the time and bumped into Peaks quite often. After a couple of years I started to look more closely at their offerings and much to my surprise found that they were located just a short distance from my home. One visit - the fine people, their expertise, and the superb quality I saw everywhere - and I was hooked. Walked away with a Matterhorn, Baltic, Pacific and Caribbean; all brass, of course.

Ordered a Brass Pacific 250cp AA body directly from Peak somewhere around 06 or 07 and three HA 3 Led Matterhorns for some employees that I was overseeing, all based on Doug's Flashlightreviews.com site. Personally, I like the 250cp version Pacific best as a two cell and or 3 volt light(CR2), providing a great beam with plenty of usable light. I have the AA(my work EDC light for over one year) 2xAAA, CR2, and the AAA body but I have never used the single AAA as of yet but I'll probably get around to it when I get home tonight thanks to this post. Being a true flashaholic, I also managed to grab a 500cp version and it's a screamer on 3 volts, no it won't blast your Surefire M6 Guardian out of the water but it's plenty bright.

Now about that Baltic that I have been wanting.:D

at the time my only light was a fenix l2d, then found cpf forums and browsed around the custom manufacturer forums.
fell in love with the Peak brass and found that they were very reasonable.

in the span of 3 weeks, ordered a brass pacific sp and a bunch of various
bodies, AAA brass, AA brass key and pocket, HA AA key and pocket and 3
brass tail switches. and then a brass rgb matterhorn, a brass mckinley, then
a brass rainier and a 2xAA body. i was addicted.

For me it was back in '03. I just got an Arc AAA and found out much of it was made by Peak...which "peaked" my interest. I bought a Matterhorn AAA in single and 3LED. Shortly after I saw the McKinley ad. That was the first time I called and had a long conversation with Robyn. I've been hooked ever since! High quality, reliable lights! :twothumbs

I still haven't got my first Peak, it's being built, I ordered a Ti Carribean about 2 weeks ago.

Well, I left the LED section of CPF and I was brave enough to land at the custom builders here and stupid enough not to leave at once... A few days later I also ordered a gold-plated Eiger, still haven't an answer on its availability, I would preffer a wide neutral level 6.

So, my flashaholism beginning exactly 2 years ago with Surefire, it took me a while from there over Fenix & Co to come to the real things, at last, I think they are the real things, which is a personal appreciation of course and still theoretical in my case speaking of Peak...

I needn't say that I'm getting nervous by now, need I???

3 years ago I wanted another Arc light. Already had the AAA but wanted the same kind of light and quality with a single AA. Saw Peak's Kilimanjaro light and ordered it up in white led and another in red led. They sit by the bed all the time, attached to a magnetic strip. Have a couple others, love the build quality and simplicity of them, and they look very nice.

My first was on 3/13/05 (still have the e-mail confirmation!), from John C. (Lighthound) back when he was surefireparts.com, in an ebay auction. I bought an HA Matty and Kili. I'm sure I had read up on them on CPF, back when MJ was their rep around here.

Peak quality is something you need to hold in your hand to truly appreciate. Once I did, I've been a fan ever since. :)

Yeah- you have an awesome collection- do you still have that picture of all of your lights on like a 3 tiered wooden shelf?
I think it was in another "show your collection" thread elsewhere....maybe you could post it here to make us all envious. WOW!:twothumbs

I've done a few more peak mods since...

My Pacific EDC now sports a MadMax2+, T1SS0I High cri seoul, sapphire
glass, McR-16s, and my 2-mode high/low brass switch mod. works on both
nimh+14500. It's my favorite light of ALL TIME. middle row, 5th from right.

P7 DSVNI + the 3 mode shiningbeam driver in a Brass Atlantic. :naughty:
High cri seoul Brass Mediterranean.

swapped the 17mm smooth reflectors for McR-16's in a couple high cri
caribeans..added some ucl glass.

Hello, my name is MWClint and i'm a flashaholic. lovecpf

December 2004, Matterhorn 1x5mm, $33.80.

I had bought a couple of small Arc lights and was ready to try something more, but Arc was dead by then. I had no idea of the connection between the two companies, Arc & Peak, but saw that Craig over at the LED Museum liked them. As always with a new company I start out with small purchases to asses the product. Several hundred dollars later I can say I like them … a lot.

I would have purchased many more Peaks if only the options available were more clearly shown, easier to get to on their website, specifications and runtimes were easier to compare, and if they would finally come out with a simple High / Low configuration. I know you can call, but if you don't know of a product's existence, then it's kinda hard to ask about it. Besides, it seems like an imposition for such a relatively small purchase, especially now that they've got that "distributor". I shall miss Robyn's lovely, helpful voice …

My latest buy (I called  ) was a couple of the knurled stainless steel 3x5mm lug body Matterhorn lights. The only way I knew of their existence was through MWClint's hard work putting Peak's catalog online at CPF, having only seen, and been uninterested in, the smooth SS bodies on Peak's website.

EDIT: Never mind ... saw your sig line link to mods ... source and resistor rating to get P4 Caribbean down around 20lm?
I have a brass Caribbean in dire need of this two stage mod of which you speak, Mr. Clint, as I've already P4ed it. Can you share the details or provide a linky?

Just purchased my first PEAKs last month.HA McKinley(cyan) and a brass Matterhorn(cyan).Thinking now I would like to have the McKinley in all the available LED colors! The Matterhorn went to my wife and quickly became a favorite. The brass bodies are a nice touch in market dominated by aluminum.Wish I had purchased a PEAK light earlier on but I am sure there will be more PEAKs in my future!

Good to hear- did you get them from the RMSK closeout specials?
There are some good deals there. Nice to see a fellow Buckeye here- I am in Central OH- what about you?:welcome:

Sorry, just now looking at back at this thread! I ordered both of my lights from the Peak website, haven't tried RMSK yet but they did have some really good deals.I notice PEAKs website is still up but I'm not sure if they are accepting orders or what? I am still interested in some of the 5MM colored LED lights if they are going to be available in the future.I am located in NC OH BTW.Thanks for the welcome but I have been hanging around CPF for a while. ;) This is my first venture into PEAK territory though!

After reading so many glowing reviews of Peak lights on my favorite website, FlashlightReviews [thanks Doug], I couldn't pass up the 2005 CPF Special, based on what would become the Peak Rainier. A beautiful dark red annodize pocket rocket that was very bright with great throw and gorgeous tint and beam. I received it in Feb '06. I ordered it with optional momentary tail and also the tail plug for tailstanding.

Doug at FlashlightReviews did a review of it that was password protected. It is no longer accessable since he sold the site. He gave it 5 stars [his highest rating] but later changed it to 4.5 stars due to the fact that this screamer could only run 45 minutes before dropping below 50% of starting output on its rechargable batteries and generally his minimum was at least one hour.

Once I had such a beautiful light in my hands and got to see the quality, I became a Peak fan for life.
