I just harvested some sony/konion 18650VTs (Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese) from a Makita 18v pack. I've been reading up on them, but I can't seem to find the correct charging voltage #s. I've read they can be charged on a regular Lithium Ion charger, but some are saying only to 4.1v. They are rated at 1500ma and came out of the pack @3.6v.
I don't want any explosions, so how best to charge them? I have an ultrafire 139, a trustfire tr-001, and a DSD charger using a Nokia walwort. Any help is appreciated.

Hello Jabe1,

I believe all of the current Li-Ion cells are designed to be charged to 4.2 volts.

 The "best" way to charge them is to use a hobby charger like the Schulze... However, you can probably get by using one of your other chargers... :)

LuxLuthor included these batteries in his safe chemistry shootout. I recall that he found some good documentation that showed these to be spec'd at 4.1V termination but that 4.2V is also fine but with less life-cycles. Off the top of my head I think it was something like 700 charging cycles at 4.1V or 240 or so when charging to 4.2V.

I have been using them a while and always charge to 4.2V. So far they have been excellent and are providing similar performance to my AW IMR18650's. Will keep my fingers crossed as mine came from a makita battery pack with a lot of reported failures. At $5 a battery mine have already been a good value though.

Thanks for the info! Exactly what I was hoping to hear!
Maybe it's time for an SST-50 drop-in.

I managed to get 10 cells  for $10 plus tax :nana:
