Well it's an integer and it relates to the number of times I have pondered your math posts and any significance they might possibly have to me. I just find it interesting to imagine extremely large numbers using the simplest of terms, and I thought I'd share.

Take '#' to mean:
x # 2 = x ^ x
x # 3 = x ^ (x ^ x)
x # 4 = x ^ (x ^ (x ^ x))
.
.
.
Now calculate (4 # 4)

Then take '@' to mean:
x @ 2 = x # x
x @ 3 = x # (x # x)
x @ 4 = x # (x # (x # x))
.
.
.
Now calculate (3 @ 3)

Obviously, it's hard to even imagine (4 @ 4), let alone calculate.

However here's an interesting one.
Define '?' to be:
x ? 1 = x + x
x ? 2 = x * x
x ? 3 = x ^ x
x ? 4 = x # x
x ? 5 = x @ x
.
.
.
Now, imagine the graph of y = x ? x using 1 through 10 as the domain.

When I was in high school, I memorized Pi to 50 digits. Why? No reason. Just felt like it. Walked into math class one day and started writing them on the black board. I can remember that it took my 286 some time to churn out those calculated digits of Pi...

If M-theory is right, and my feeble understanding of it also right, then there is a size beyond which it doesn't make sense to talk about -- the smallest size that can exist. Which doesn't set bounds on the smallest number, but does set a limit to the smallest size "thing" that can exist. For some reason, I find that comforting /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you keep repeating the above, how many steps will it take before you get to the door?

If that's your asymtote (sp), go for it! There are other things I chose to approach, knowing full well that I'll never get there! BTW, as I was led to believe, proving 1+1=2 was not a trick question.
