What\'s the most powerful light available?

Say size and $$$ weren't an issue. What's the most powerful light? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: What\'s the most powerful light available?

The sun.

Are you asking about hand held lights or xenon short arc search lights that are hauled around on a trailer?

Actually there are MUCH brighter lights than the Sun (larger stars, supernovas, quasars). The Sun just happens to be closer.

The brightest handheld light would probably be a large photo flash. Not much on duration, though.

The brightest non-flash handheld light is most probably some CPFers crazy creation. The Ken4, Wilkey's Aurora and Sway's HID 240 mod come to mind...

You mean this one?

Hmmm, doesn't Lex Luthor own that one also? But as far as aliens go, doesn't Clark Kent have a pair of high powered laser eyeballs?

Umm, probably Bush Jr. knows, hehehe; but he's not telling. Left over SDI lasers still being worked on at Area 51, I would guess. Some pretty potent lasers needed to burn a hole in the skin of ICBM's. I suppose it depends on what you qualify as 'available' to mean?

Re: What\'s the most powerful light available?

I've stayed at the Luxor. That light is serious.

The hotel is very campy and cool. The elevators go up and down at a 40 degree angle to match the sides of the building. You definitely feel the lateral motion as you rise. It's weird.

Re: What\'s the most powerful light available?

If you want something a little more portable, then Optronic's Megaray seems to be the pinnacle of high brightness lighting.

175 watts of HID goodness, 4 figure price tag.

Re: What\'s the most powerful light available?

I was looking at the x990 and wanted to know if there was a better light.

Re: What\'s the most powerful light available?

A 30 ton vat of liquid steel at 3000 degrees is so bright you need blue googles. A carbon Arc cutter at about 200 amps is real bright too. But seriously, an X990 is a good combination for $500. The UK Light Cannon 100 is only $170 but much smaller than X990 (500 lumens Vs 3200 though). I like both.
Those other Superlights run into Thousands of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Re: What\'s the most powerful light available?

lasercraze,

I agree with Nikola the X990 is the best bang for the buck, long run time, extra battery pack, good charger set up all in a nice package it's hard to beat for the price.

The X990 will out Lum the MaxaBEAM and may be even the 175W Megaray but it will not out throw them different tool for a different job, buy them all /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PS: If you have truck a pair of these are a must have for the roll bar and the price is not bad at $595.00 each considering but the postage may be a little high /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/poke2.gif

So how many SF123s does that Vortex need? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: What\'s the most powerful light available?

It would seem the x990 is kind of a defacto-standard for HID. I'm sure you can find more expensive ones like the Megaray mentioned above.

I think the cheap VectorLites give you plenty of light for just a little bit of money [~$20-$40], but they are not very good for run time compared to the x990.

Re: What\'s the most powerful light available?

A hypernova. It is estimated that if one were to explode 20 light years away(that can't happen), it would release enough energy to still melt away our atmosphere and...kill us.

I love this pic /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Megaray 175 from 600-700 Meters.
