Hi Guys, I am looking for a great hunting and every day use flashlight and am looking for recommendations. I originally wanted a rechargeable and was looking at the SF L7 or SF 9AN. However I have started leaning towards the LX2 due to its higher output and long running time what do you guys think? Is the 15 lumen output on the low setting enough to navigate around camp or down a trail? I am partial to SF because I have used a lot of their equipment while in the military and they always provided excellent support but I would be open to checking out other companies. Thanks for the help!

:welcome:. Almost any light will be rechargeable with reuse batteries. I would think about a headlight (Zebralight?) to light trail and camp complimented with a hand held (18650?) for distance illumination.
15 lumen is plenty for navigating a trail or dinking around camp. From what I've heard of the LX2, there isn't much spill so maybe not as useful on low? Something with more flood may be more useful for everyday stuff. So any of the quality lights with reflectors. The most useful that I've experienced would be the M60 drop in with 8 degree optic from Malkoff in a P60 host of your preference. It has a hotspot that gradually transitions to flood then gradually to nothing. Very easy on the eyes and very useful IMO. Not the best thrower, but no slouch either.
yep, get a surefire 6P bored out for the 18650 and run the malkoff M60 or M30 either one will be great!
in addition to that once you have a 6P bored out it is nearly the most versatile light out there, you can use any battery configuration, from 3.0V, 3.7, 4.2, 6.0, 7.4, and 8.4, and you can get any lighting you could possibly imagine, from Infrared, UV, incandescent, low lumen forever lasting LEDs, to hi lumen short battery life LEDs or incans, so if and when you get bitten by the bug, you won't need to spend 75-100 on new lights (although its a good excuse) just need to buy the dropin

I already have a headlamp but have never been very fond of them. So now I need those answers simplified a little. Is malkoff a brand? How do I bore out a lite? What is the 18650? I didnt realize they made rechargeable batteries for all surefire lights, are those available on the site? I realize these are pretty ignorant questions and I am going to see if I can find some of the answers myself, so Thanks for your help and patience!
So I checked out the malkoffs and they are impressive. I guess the 18650's are battery replacements, but I still dont know what is involved in boring out a light. With a 6p using a malkoff M60 or M30 what kind of output and runtime would I be getting?
usually there is someone selling 6Ps already bored out, and the malkoffs usually M30 is rated at 235 lumens for 1.25 hours on a cr123, the 18650 has much much higher capacity but i don't know the exact math, but at LEAST 2 hours of continuous run
th M60 is designed for 2 cells, but will run on an 18650 although perhaps a little dimmer, the advantage with this one is that when the voltage gets low, it will slowly dim until the battery is depleted, the M30 will cut off abruptly when the voltage drops past a certain point so its up to you which sounds more useful

solarforce are another option, you can buy the kit for around $40, it will come with a decent dropin, rechargeable battery, recharger and it will fit 18650s (you can find the kit for 2 smaller rechargeables or 1 18650) it is cheaper, the quality is decent, but it's not the surefire, just another option
