Re: Where do I find information on the Surefire U2

Al,
Didn't you write the following? "The LED came from a reel not a bin." Now I am really confused!

Re: Where do I find information on the Surefire U2

Luxlover,

I was answering Don's question before.
If I can confuse you about where LEDs come from, do you feel it is appropriate that I answer any more of your questions?

One confusion, even if it were true that I was confused, has nothing to do with another confusion. Knowing me, you know that I know where LEDs come from, how they are distributed, and also where they are going! I will continue to answer your questions, if you continue to answer mine. Fair enough?

Al,
Great answer! Mind if I use it sometime! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

To my knowledge, the U2 has a constant current boost circuit with the current to LED selected by the rotating collar. This circuit will work with a Vin at some unknown min (Li-Ion well within range) up to the Vf of the LED (unknown unless Al has a list of serial numbers of the U2's mapped to the actual measured Vf's of the individual LED's associated with each light). Consequently, putting the U2 on 3x123 or 2xLi-Ion will be unkind to the LED and likely not very nice to the circuit as well.

Re: Where do I find information on the Surefire U2

Luxlover,
I have no idea where LEDs come from. Seriously, I would love to see them being manufactured - created out of the ether or whatever.
I assume they are shipped in boxes but again, I have no idea. Perhaps they are faery tears - "Luxeon" means tear of sorrow in Sindarin after all.

I have no idea where LEDs are going. Even today, I have been shocked at how far LEDs have come, but I can not see into the future. Unless like SureFire you are making the future we are but historians catching up with what has already happened.

I recall it being reported that Pilas will be OK and suggested that 3x123A is not. No idea about 2xR123.
