I am planning a project, that involves a 5W ls and a BB750.

I need to know what wouuld be a good combination with the BB750. I am getting the idea that I might be over driving the LS too much with the 750mA.

I am new to this, so I dont know much about Vf and all that. But, Im pretty sure that I need a high Vf, in order to over drive it less with something as big as a 750mA, right?

Basically.. I want the brightest light output possible. and still get over an hour of runtime, and not be overdriving the LS tooo much, so that I end up replacing it in a few months.

What combination do you recommend? And where can I buy good 5W LS's? Ive looked at datzips, but they only have 2 avalible, and I'm not sure they are good enough for what I'm wanting to do.

Thanks for the input !

Well, you can try either dat2zip or elektroLumens. These are the two best people to get parts from.

Dat2zip actually lists the bin codes for his and they are U3U and V2T.

ElektroLumens doesn't on his website but I think they are V3U as pointed out by CPF member hotbeam in a thread before.

Here's a basic outline of 5W LS and what to look for:

Flux
U (average)87.4 to 113.6 lumens
V (good)113.6 to 147.7 lumens
W (jackpot!)147.7 to 192.0 lumens
X (you wish!)192.0 to 249.6 lumens

Tint (These remain the same for the 5W)
*It should be noted that these won't show as much discoloration as the 1 Watt LS's do.
1 (quite green)
2 (greensish)
3 (ok)
4 (bluesish)
5 (purplish)

Vf
R is 5.43v to 5.91v
S is 5.91v to 6.39v
T is 6.39v to 6.87v
U is 6.87v to 7.35v
V is 7.35v to 7.83v
W is 7.83v to 8.31v

If you're not too sure about bin codes, just do a search and you'll find a wealth of info here.

Happy hunting,

I think you would be best off getting the V3U from ElektroLumens. It's got a high flux reading (meaning light output) and it's pretty white (and not the dreaded green).
You might want to e-mail Wayne (ElektroLumens) first just to check.

Shark, maybe your's is from previous batch that he got? mine was binned V3 or so that I can remember.
