Which two cr123 (6 volts) lithium flashlight (not led) is the best for the money?

Surefire G2, Pelican P6, or Streamlight Scorpion? Legend LX is bright but too big.

I'm planning to buy a half dozen for christmas gifts. Looking for low price since I'm buying 6. urls are appreciated. Thanks.

Re: **Which (2) cr123 flashlight is the best for t

I like the PM6 a lot. Easy moddability, cheap replacement lamps, awesome reflector, metal construction, and included holster.

The G2 is smaller, lighter, possibly more reliable, and has a *lot* of accessories.

Re: **Which (2) cr123 flashlight is the best for t

if you're basing solely on cost, the dorcy spider is the cheapest one i can think of.

personally, i would probably go with the g2, but i'm a flashaholic, and your friends and relatives may not apprecaite their quality enough to justify the extra $$$

Re: **Which (2) cr123 flashlight is the best for t

For me it would either be the surefire G2 or the streamlight scorpion. The differences would be that on the G2 the LA would be expensive to replace vs. only replacing the bulb on the scorpion. Also the scorpion is focusable, but dark spots and rings will appear as with all focusable flashlights. At the tightest focus the scorpion will also have a nice beam, but just a tad bit less pretty than a surefire's beam. If you are real hot on the having the perfect no holes, dark spots, or rings beam go with the G2. But if you would rather sacrifice that beam quality and in the long run save some money on the bulb replacements then go with the scorpion. There are other differences in the two, but they are neglible.

I have the SF G2 and the PM6. The G2's beamspot is about as round and perfect as I've seen. These can be purchased for $30 and less off Ebay any day of the week. However, as mentioned, the spare lamp assemblies are pricey, from $16-25.00, for the P60 and P61 respectively.

The Pelican M6 is significantly brighter than the G2 with the standard P60 lamp. The beamspot is close to the quality of the G2, but there have been numerous comments about some bulbs being slightly off center and the hotspot's shape being affected. One of mine has a slightly "cats-eye" shape, but it doesn't bother me. Spare lamps run about $5.00. It has a machined aluminum body that, imo, is particularly fetching in the matte silver finish, as opposed to the G2's "nitrolon" (which feels like a fiberglass reinforced nylon to me, like the handles on my Spyderco knife).

The Battery Station, a CPF sponsor, offers them to CPFers for $30.00 which is $5.00 off what they regularly sell them for. He sells the DP CR123A batteries for $1.00 each to CPFers.

They are extremely prompt and efficient and my items arrive within three business days of placing my order.

Your gift recipients will certainly have excellent lights whichever of the three you choose. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

How long are the Scorpion bulbs rated to last?? The G2 bulb is, on average, about 3 to 4 times more costly. If the P60 lamp lasts 3 to 4 times longer than the Scorpion bulb, bulb replacement becomes a non-issue.

I have no idea how long the Scorpion bulbs last, but Surefire's are rated to last around 25 hours or more, provided they are not defective.

Is the Pelican M6 significantly bigger and heavier than the SF G2?

What is the url to the Battery Station CPFers $30.00 price? Any one find a price in the $20 range? I might buy more if the price is in the $20 range.

I think the M6 would be quite a lot heavier compared to the G2, as the G2 is made of Nitrolon, sorta like ABS plastic kinda stuff, and would withstand knocks, dents etc.. but not the anodised M6 body though that's what makes the M6 heavier too...

THe url you're looking for is here. I think $30 would be the best price you can get it for, altho i can't say for sure as I'm not in the US myself...

Personally, I'd think the G2 would be a better all round light, you can drop it or knock it around and not worry about the finish getting scratched or dented, etc. Another thing to consider is also that the Scorpion comes with a spare bulb as well... thought that'd make your decision tougher... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm considering Christmas gifts as well...and thinking of the SL TT 2L - $30 (or 1L - $20). As an emergency light for the car, it seems pretty ideal (lithium, 3 LEDs + Bright Xenon & compact).

I think your non-Flashaholic friends will never notice or know anything about beam quality. They'll just think they've gotten an extrordinaryily compact, bright, flexible, well made and versatile light.

Plus...the SL bulbs are relatively inexpensive; like 2 for $5.

[/ QUOTE ]That would be my reccomendation as well. Awesome light at a great price. Plus, your friends that receive them as gifts will love the cool, dual LED/Xenon feature. Otherwise, it's just another flashlight. You can get the Streamlight TT 2L from www.brightguy.com for $29, and that includes two lithium batteries.

I like the Scorpion for an inexpensive 2x123a light...

Regarding bulb life of the Scorpion, a thread about just that was started some time ago and the conclusion from real world use was that the Scorpion bulbs last at least as long as the P60 lamps.

You can find the link at the "Dealers Corner" Forum here.

The lowest I have seen a PM6 priced is $29.99 on Ebay.

The PM6 is a little bigger and heavier than the G2. I could tolerate the G2 in the front pocket of my trousers longer than the PM6. But just a little longer.

Don't have a Surefire G2 or a Pelican P6, have the SL Scorpion. I have been mightily impressed with it from the start. Only thing you have to be careful about is the mode of carry--if it is carried in a way that the light can be compressed end to end the momentary switch can come on. I am guessing the G2 is the same way as it has no LOTC. I know very little about the P6.

Also, your gift recipients could put a KL1 on the Scorpion body or put a SureFire E-series bezel and lamp for a slimmer light if so desired, just more options.

After looking at Quickbeam's beamshots, my previous statement is no longer true.

The SL Scorpion's coming with a spare bulb is a plus and I didn't know that the SF KL1 could be screwed on to it. That is a major plus.

I'm gonna order a Scorpion myself. Can't have too many 2L lights. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a Scorpion and I love it but my beam has NEVER been that tight...any ideas how to fix it?

I have held and shined Scorpion (months ago VERY early in my CPF days) and since I had an LX at the time, decided I didn't need one.

I have G2, PM6, LX and the aforementioned TT2L from Streamlight. My G2 has a clickie, and gets used around my house a LOT!. My M6 is stock, throws a tighter whiter beam farther, and is an awesome 2x123 light for the bucks! My LX is big, has a stiff clickie, and doesn't get much use.

My TT2L is my EDC light (in a Ripoffs holster). While not as bright as ANY of the others in Xenon mode, it is quite useful in that mode. The bonus is the LED mode! It is enough light for most tasks, and allows for battery life as much as 6-8 times the other lights! (This may be a bonus for a non flashaholic!).

PLUS... the TTs feel like they ought to cost WAY more than you are paying for it!

So my rec is Streamlight Twin Task 2L!!!

Re: **Which (2) cr123 flashlight is the best for t

I know you said no LED, but for the money.......
My vote is for the Streamlight TT 2L.....you get two lights in one. LED's for general walk around, light the room stuff. Then you have the xenon for better throw and more light. According to Streamlight you get 28 hours with the LED's and 2.5 hours with the xenon. Also, if your xenon blows, you still have light from the LED's. Plus it has a life time warrantee. For $30.00 at BrightGuy it's a great deal.

For more throw it's hard to beat a Brinkmann Legend LX for the price. Can be found for under $20.00, the xenon bulb is cheap to replace, has an hour run time. KSBMAN gave me his and I can tell you it throws a nice bright big old spot way out there (300+ feet). Sure it's a little big....but you asked "bang for buck".

Be sure to include some batteries as gifts. If the recipients have to get 123's at a regular store you may not be a popular guy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The G2 for my $$$ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: **Which (2) cr123 flashlight is the best for t

Some relatives of mine just received 2 G2's from me for their hurricane kit (their power's still out). Those, a 12-pack of batts (so that's 16 batts total, incl. the ones that come with the lights) and overnight express were approved by my wife.
