All I need is 4 x AAA and 4 x AA Eneloops and an inexpensive battery charger for them. I can buy the Sony for 15 bucks new delivered at my doorstep.

or buy the one that comes with the eneloops. So you can see they are both the same price.

Which one do you guys recommend?

Why does Sanyo revoke guaranty, if charged with any other charger? I know they want to sell chargers, but they must be sure there chargers do the job right.

What is your opinion on Tenergy ready to Use NiMH Battery ?

I'm retired and have a lot of junk accumulated through the years and would prefer not to spend to much money on more. I'm not going to be around that many more years, but I do find this fascinating, and would like to do the best with what I have.

I have a multi-meter, any recommendations on using this to check and discharge batteries without over discharging them? I learned something here.

Thanks a lot guys I have learned a lot from you.

You posted this in another thread where it was off topic, so I've moved it to make a new thread.

So, I'm going to ASSUME that you've heard the phrase:

Pay me now or pay me later...

Starting out with the *BEST*:
  • Charger: Maha MH-C9000
    .
  • Cells: Eneloop / Duraloop
...every step you make LOWER will decrease your performance.

For example:
  • Eneloops won't perform their best with a *CRAP* charger.
    .
  • A Maha MH-C9000 Charger won't get 'Eneloop-like Performance' from *CRAP* cells.
IMO, Newbies ask questions like this 'ad nauseam' on the forum (instead of investing some of their TIME and SEARCHING the CPF Archives. ) IMO, Eneloops with a 'SMART' Charger (i.e. terminates properly without overheating the cells) will serve you best. The 'Sony BC-CS2A' that you LINKed to sounds viable. Personally, I prefer a 'Charger/Analyser' (La Crosse / Maha) to allow measuring / monitoring a cell's Capacity.

P.S. What 'Browser' are you using that adds "{B}{COLOR=navy}{FONT=Arial}" to all of your text? IMO, you might consider either turning that option off or using another browser.

P.P.S. Would you recommend 'Guadalajara, Mexico' as a viable / INEXPENSIVE 'Retirement Location'?

Thanks for answering and the information.

You might want to by a universal smart charger that will accept voltages in your range of need and a large flexibility exists in number of cells to charge in one cycle.

THe advantage is if you get different lights or other electronics that need different sizes or quantities of cells you can always use your universal for them (with some exceptions as to type etc.).

The disadvantage is that unless they are already in a pack you will need to make/buy a pack to put them into to charge as the universals I'm thinking of are just a brain with alligator clips, and in my case, a temp sensor on a lead.

I didn't real all the posts so it's possible that people are already recommending a few models that do the same things and probably even have spots to put the batteries in.

For me though, I'm really loving the flexibility to have one charger for almost everything NiMH regardless of quantity of cells (within range).

I just ordered the MAHA-C9000 from Thomas Distributing and 12 ENELOOPS (8 AA and 4 AAA) from CFR, nice guy.

What do you think of the Sony pre-charged AA and AAA batteries? We have them here in COSTCO.

I also ordered the JET I – PRO EX and the ITP AAA from going gear, so I'll have something that eats up the juice from the new eneloops beside my Sony Cyber-shot and remote controls.

I'm also ordering the M1X and JET III M. but I'll need some Li-Ions for them. I'll try to get the best also. Pila and AW's,,, Right?

Thanks

I also have a whole bunch of energize and Panasonic AA and AAA, I guess it will be fun checking them out and bringing back to life on my new C9000, I'll Finally see what all the fuzz is about.

I got kicked out of another thread (accused of high-jacking it with my dumb questions) those guys really sounded like they where having fun with their C9000 and eneloops.
