Search overload just drove me nuts. I'm tired of searching and I've gone backwards.

Long story short DX shows my order for a 6090 as "Processing - Contact us for details". Google search showed that's bad. I took this time to look for a replacement just in case it cannot be done.

Why am I buying something from DX? Well because I had fifteen dollars on paypal and wanted to blow it. Am I willing to spend more, under any circumstance? No. I'm just goofing off. Well now I've requested to change to 11836 and then back to 6090 over and over because searching keeps telling me different things.

So I'm going to just ask again because I've looked through 50 or so pages and found nothing.

I've got a 6P and am going to run it off of 2 cr123 batteries. I'm assuming the 11836 (R2 version) is brighter. However, I read somewhere the models they are selling now are crap.

Well that's fine because I can order the 6090 still. But wait, I've read from two different people that it is bright and not bright.

Well what is it. Is it bright? Or is it not bright? How bright is it with two primaries.

I'm basically looking for the brightest one because this is just me blowing 15 dollars. Just tell me which to buy and I'll be on my way.

And if you tell me to search I want you to go do it yourself. Then try to honestly tell me it was worth it..

it is, i made the mistake of reading older reviews on it.
about as bright as a P4.

Good. Well, this makes my choice easier then.

So, running on two primaries, about how many lumens should I expect from the 6090 for about how long? Again, the threads I've read lead me every which direction. 20 minutes of searching and I almost had a seizure.

I can't recommend either any more.

The 11836 emits 140L OTF on a cold start, that plummets rapidly to ~120 as the DC-DC circuit severely overdrives the LED. Eventually the XR-E will die a pre-mature death. thread here...

I am monitoring this however... see the DX discussion thread on the 11836 product discussion board.

In the meantime, I think you are better off getting a solarforce dropin from the solarforce store or lighthound, if you are on a tight budget.

Last week and part of this week are National Day (really long one apparently :)) in China.

My order that had been "Processing - Contact us for details" since last week shipped today.

If the 11836 is bad, what about the 11621?

Well I woke up to an email saying it shipped. So I got a 6090, still not sure how bright it is.

I've got the 11836 older version which is supposedly brighter and I got the 17593 which ramps up from 200 lumens down to 5 lumens give or take. I'd get the 17593 if you are not interested in one level lighting but if you are interested in one light level I'd go with the R2 solarforce on ebay since I got lucky with the older brighter version of the 11836 and don't want you to risk gettin the newer less bright one.

You'll like it . The 6090 is bright, though not quite as bright as 11836. I like the tint better than my early 11836.

My favorite drop-in is the 11074 :D. I wish I could order more of those. I'd also like to get a few of the drivers and use them to modify 3D Mags. They'd be sweet!

Thank you. That is all I wanted to know. I'm assuming the runtime is around an hour and a half? Give or take.

is the 17593 one mode or three
because if it is one mode that you set every time you accidentally click it then that is absurd

just trying to find a good cheap thrower with NO STROBE CRAP to replace my junky 11836.
there are like 10 variations of the solarforce L2 which is supposedly so good, too

then theres the tempting, new, mysterious xp-g r4 drop in from nailbender for a not-really-cheap-as-i-was-hoping $35

Can't help you there because I've never used it on primaries and never ran it more than about half an hour on 16340s. Have you checked out Kramer5150's review on youtube?

I had but not it didn't give me any new info. From my searching I read to unscrew it a little and that it was a pretty solid build. I had actually thought it was a Q5 and not a P4 though but that is irrelevant.

Just to judge the 6090's brightness I put a couple of Surefire 123s in it and put it up against my 11074 Q5, and while the 11074 is noticeably brighter, the tint of the 6090 is warmer. It's closer with the rechargeable 123s, I guess the 6090's driver likes the higher voltage. I even tried it with a 17670 and it's about as bright as the 11074 on medium - pretty good considering the driver likes higher voltages.

One other light I compared it to while I had the Surefire 123s in it was the 4W Rayovac Sportsman Extreme 3C running on 3 freshly charged NiMH cells. The 6090 was as bright, and the color was warmer too.

The 6090 is a good single mode drop in for a 6P. I still use mine in my 6P with a Solarforce (I assume) stainless bezel. The combination of bright light and bling really impress the unenlightened!

I wanted to use it as a backup light if it ever came to it and a light to pass out at training if anyone needs it. Plus just an extra general light.

I believe it's going to work just fine. It seems bright enough. I'm assuming it's over 150 which is fine. Runtime is probably between an hour and a half to two hours so it's all good.

The DX6090 is rumored to use a Cree XR-E P4 bin LED. The drive current is roughly 1A and referring to the XR-E datasheet, the relative luminous flux is about 2.2, giving about 175 emitter lumens. Assuming 20% reflector losses, OTF output could be around 140 lumens. The driver is about 70% efficient, so it won't be the coolest running drop-in, but it works. The driver seems to barely reach full regulation at about 5V, so it might be better to run the DX6090 using 2xLi-ion instead of 2x123A.

The 17593 ramps up from low to high and you can stop anywhere in between. The light flashes twice at 5%, 50% and 100% to let you know where you fall while ramping from 5 lumens to 200. It works great! Go to DX's site and put in 17593 and read what others say. Many like it since it doesn't limit your output range and has no strobe or sos bull. It is as bright as my 11836 older version which is rated at 190-200 lumens just a different tint.

already read every topic/review earlier, but...
ive heard good things about the old 11836, so if it's like that, then i will get one

by the way, is this 'programmable' or more like 'memory'?
as in, is the setting really STORED for a while or is it lost in an hour or so?

What happens with the DX17593 if I manually strobe the light by repeatedly cycling the tailcap switch rapidly? Does the drop-in try to enter programming mode?
