Why ain't there any Cree or Seoul Headlamps?

I haven't been following too closely ... but I haven't heard any good reasons lately apart from apathy or economies of scale (maybe) ... all that I know is that people are having success modding their Princeton Tecs and whatnot.

I'm wondering when I will be able to buy a Streamlight ProPoly 4AA with a cree or seoul ... but I guess many companies are taking the time it takes to convert over otherwise they'll possibly be taking a big loss with old products that they can't move unless they put 'em on firesale.

I don't know ... just a guess. Anyone else have more insight?

I'm guessing that it's just because of the smaller market. I think they'll be out in a few months :)

Headlamps are relatively easy to modify. If you can't do it yourself, I am selling a very bright headlamp in my signature. It has two output levels, a red blinky mode, and even has a magnetic grip on the back.

There is a big advantage to the new emitters, considering battery life. You can get more brightness or more runtime from the same battery power. Or get the same output/runtime and carry half the battery weight.

you are right! these headlamps are behind the curve. By the way, it is not only headlamps, but also lanterns that are behind. Both of these could benefit tremendously because runtime is a very important feature - they could basically give you twice the runtime for acceptable brightness by switching over to the CREEs.

one big company has announced that they will introduce a CREE-based lantern, but when I last checked their website nothing like that was available.

but hey, good opportunity for those who are good with modding! (go, EngrPaul!)

I put a cree in my Rock River lantern from target. I think it is brighter but I don't think it's a huge leap. It is kind of hard to tell though since I don't have a second one to compare it to directly.

Paul's headlamp mod is exactly the light I had been searching for- I recommend it very highly.

I had considered a mod on my riverrock but it is already a perfect little light as is. I feel this light is already bright enough for what I use it for.

I'm excited about all the new headlamps that surely will be coming out in the near future.........

I have been VERY happy with my dual CREE headlamp :) 360 lumens for 3 hours.
