Why no 4 AA Crees?

Yeah, the Amp does not look that great. I do have a couple PT Tech 40s that I like a lot. The Tech 40 body would be another great platform for a nice 4AA XRE. It would be waterproof to boot! I did try a XRE in my Propoly but the beam did not focus well with the reflector.
 
I bought an Amp 5.0 out of curiosity, and I have nothing positive to say about it. If you have to have a 4AA light now, stick with the ProPoly Lux - it's still a great light. I'm always on the lookout for the eventual ProPoly replacement, but both lights I've purchased to potentially fit that role have been disappointments.

Is yours the newer one? The Rebel LED is the only reason why I have been looking at them.

Yep - reflectored Rebel for the primary beam and 3x bare 5mm array for the secondary beam.

As I mentioned in another thread... I was hoping for something akin to a poor man's 4AA LunaSol. With a little work (better reflector for the primary, replace the 5mm array with floodier 3mm), it might be OK. But as is, I'm really disappointed.
 
You can always get 2xRuntime by having a 2xAA flashlight and carrying 2xAA extra! Is it really such a bug to have to occasionally change batteries? (just have a backup light, the key-chain 1xAAA being particularly helpful) and you can always have light around.

The point is with today's electronic controls you can get max efficiency and lumens (plus lower options for more runtime) even at lower voltages, so you don't get a huge advantage by stacking the batteries, yet you keep the advantage of slimmer and lighter designs.

Don't forget also that both companies and people respond to having a lower price: a 4xAA flashlight will be larger and therefore more expensive, especially in metal. It's probably not a coincidence that most flashlights in multi-AA formfactors are plastic! (Maglites in metal tend to use C or D batteries when larger, and focus on 2xAA or smaller in terms of large production runs).

making a oval shape d multi battery casing out of metal is more expensive to make than cutting a piece from round metal tube.

manufacturers just want to get the easy cheap way. not what would be a "smarter" way. money talks, not customer needs/wants.

the added material cost per weight/amount alone is minimal.

plastic body would be fine by me! but tooling costs.

Also, AA batteries are going the way of the cassette tape. Technology has evolved. I know people don't like change and I know many people still have video recorders and cassette tapes, but we have to move on or we become extinct.

I'm waiting for the same thing. Streamlight Propoly.4AA with a Q3-5A. That would be AWESOME!!!!
 
Propoly with either a K2, Rebel or XPE, warm tint of course, the Rebel and XPE would give a tighter beam than the K2 and the Lux I right?
