Why no P60 Aspheric Drop In?

I know you can buy an aspheric lens to retrofit onto an existing P60 but why doesn't somebody put the thing together with no reflector all ready to go? People make P60's with optics but I've yet to see a completely built aspheric reqdy to drop right in.

you would still need to remove the original lens to be able to make it fit.
there needs to be enough room to focus it. the Ahorton kit is pretty much
as easy to pop in as a regular reflector module besides changing the lens.

its also nice as it works with most p60 pills so you can play around with it.

maybe a dedicated aspheric head would be easier - just screw it on.

I just thought about it some moaar and I dont think you could make it so
it was just one piece - there wouldnt be enough focal length. In my L2P
the aspheric goes on the ridge where the regular lens sits. the pill screws
into a black reflector shaped spacer (you could use a reflector but looks like
a terrible disco ball out the front through the aspheric). IF the lens was
attached to the spacer it would get hung up on the inner ridge that usually
holds the regular lens.

unlike an optic the aspheric needs a bit of space between it and the emitter
to focus correctly. the blacked out spacer keeps the spill from messing up
the beam.

Even better its a Malkoff type of drop-in, but a huge copper slug to trasfer the heat away from the XR-E R2 EZ1000 due to 1.3~1.8A off current which is dependant on type of cell you use since they work better in DD mode. They are designed for Aspheric 27.5mm lens.

Part of the deal IS the lack of a traditional reflector. It ruins an aspheric beam. Perhaps what I'm asking for IS impossible but I think when you can advertise twice the throw of any other fully constructed p60 there would be some interest. People do buy very expensive throwers. Not all of us need or want a $300 flashlight but a $50 p60 thrower might just sell. Maybe not. I'm not in the business so I don't really know.

The 27.5mm Aspherics are the Ahorton variants sold in custom section.

In direct drive mode both EZ100 and EZ900 both pull 1.8A off IMR 18650 cell.

The EZ900 does 32.5K lux and the EZ100 does 27.5K lux. The EZ100 does nearly 80 more OTF lumens.

I switched over to the EZ100 because side by side the beam is alot wider/bigger yet still has the impressive throw and the overall output looks like soo much more.

You can send in youre P60 hosts and $200 dollars to Saabluster and he makes them into 40K lux monsters.

The Ahorton is ~50 bux and all u have to do is unscrew the bezel and install the lens- otherwise it's the same as any other drop-in.

No matter what you will have to remove the standard lens from the host I think.

Unless the head is unusually long and has no inner ridge.

The focus will be off. The Ahorton aspheric requires that the LED die sit about 1/2" behind the optic to focus it. Most P60 reflectors place the die further back than that.

This is why I would prefer a pre-built aspheric p60 to a kit. I also think $40 for a p60 plus $50 for the kit plus whatever for the host adds up to so much $ I'd be better off with a dereelight or a tiablo. Taking off the glass lens is no big deal.

Focal length of the Ahorton is the shortest ever thus you only loose 25-27% of the OTF vs 40-55% with other Aspheric builds

The stock Ahorton kit works really well and is a relative bargain for what it is. The problem is that you don't get a good thermal path from it. That's why I ended up making that copper drop-in for this purpose. There isn't anything else like this available (the Ahorton aspheric) so you'll have to judge for yourself whether or not you think it's worth the cost. Obviously, someone thought that it was worth not only the cost of the aspheric lens itself, but, he felt that a better platform for the LED itself could be made and worth the performance benefit from it.

Some of the LED LENSER bezel's are similar sized to surefire's 1.25 inch bezel, maybe someone could salvage some aspheric's out of one of them to experiment with.
