why surefire doesn\'t make....

Hi folks:
Just fittling around today, and i was wonder if surefire would ever release a E-series 120 lumen option like how they do with the P60/61 family, now there is only mn03/mn02 lineage. I thought it would be pretty neat to have a tiny E2e that puts out massive amount of light for close-up self defense. I know that the small size of the relector would make it impractical for long range work, but it owuld be a good light to have when thing go bumpy, i mean, the 6P's are pretty hard to hide in jeans pocket, and uncomfortable too. is it a good idea? i'm open for inputs...

y'all have a good weekend now, be safe out there.

Re: why surefire doesn\'t make....

I guess it is just not practical. People who have tried modifying a P61 bulb without the reflector to fit into the E2e had experienced thermal shutdown on the batteries. The whole unit heated up so badly after a few minutes it is almost impossible to hold.

Re: why surefire doesn\'t make....

Hi Nick,
I have the this-is-Nascar bezel on a E2e, it is a mod. bezel with a P-61 lamp from which the reflector has been taken, and use the E2e reflector. It is thru that after about 7 minutes the batteries get so hot that the internal protection that the batteries have kicks on and produced the so called thermal shutdown.
I also have the YCLO 200 lumens mod. that is a D.Speck 3 -123's body with the same E2e head and a P-91 mod. lamp. It also do the same thing. thermal shutdown after 7 minutes.
But this type of lights are made to be used as small tactical lights to use as pistol lights in shoot outs.No to be used in constant on.

I have a mod. that is named E2e-E2c-Z-44-P-61 (I call it the Juancho mod) its consist of one E2e complete plus a head made out with the above parts, the E2C been the adaptor that will screw into the E bodies and accept the C- series bezel, the Z-44 is the bezel of the Centurion C-2 in Hard Anodizing, (to match the colors) and of course the powerful P-61 lamp of 120 lumens with no modifications and using the stock reflector.

At this time I still have one for sale in B/S/T , yesterday I sold one to Luxlover a rabbid Luxeon entusiast that made this one his first incandescent.

This mod. can be run for the life of the batteries (20 minutes) without thermal shutdown, thanks to the mass of the E2c and the P-61 reflector mass, and the mass of the Z-44 bezel with its pyrex lens.
Of course the intensity and throw is the same as a C-2 using the P-61, but the form factor is the E2e with only a bigger head. The head of the E2e can be exchanged in 4 seconds for the 120 lumen head, and I supply this head with a leather holster to carry it on your belt.

I have one in my personal collection that I will never sell, as I have this next to my equalizer in a rolling tray under my bed.

This is my favorite light for small size and 120 lumens.
(real Surefire lumens, not Streamlights lumens)

There is another mod that fits between the two suggested. I am not sure about the thermal shutdown but suspect that you would get considerably more extended play if not full run on the cells:

More info HERE .
The PR-T below is also host to a P61.

The advantage to this mod over the use of the "E" head with modified LA is that you only need to cut off some of the ground spring on the P-xx LA and tweak it a bit. You have a larger head with the mass of the P-xx reflector for additional thermal relief as well. Of course the Incan "Killer in class" of the E-series would have been the E3e turbo with P-91 had it ever gone beyond a modified assembly of prototype parts (top light in pic below):

Re: why surefire doesn\'t make....

I've got basically the same combo as juancho, an E2e with E2C, C2 bezel, and P-61 HOLA. I've been using it in this configuration for quite some time, and I think it is a great combination. I usually only use it for several seconds to a minute at a time, and the larger bezel isn't really all that bulky. By far the brightest light in the smallest package I've ever seen or used.

So where can I get my hands on that turbohead on the E3e???

Re: why surefire doesn\'t make....

I'd like to see Surefire offer regulation in their INCANDESCENT models (other than the A2).

A 6P with constant current regulation would be really handy, IMO.
