why?

i plugged 3 "AAA" batterys to a keychain laserpointer but the laser dont work with those "AAA" batterys,BUT when i put the original LR44 batterys its starts working normaly...what went wrong?or what is wrong here?Its the same 4.5 volts isnt it?thanks

Its not the voltage but the current is far too high. I imagine all there is a cut-out on too much current so as not to overdrive the diode.

Think of the water in a pipe theory.

You may be able to put a resistor on it to dampen the current a bit. Measure the current on the LR44's and try to replicate with batteries + a random resistor value.
