Hello, the laser comunity forums are down so I came here to ask the question. I bought a spyder laser and It is water proof. I imagine it would leave water marks on the lence. How do you clean it after putting it in water?

I also have a SPYDER GX and find it very useful.

The Spyder was designed to be waterproof although if you place it into cold or hot water, it's hypothetically possible that you could experience fogging on the lens, just like a camera. If you expect to take it underwater, place a tiny bit of silicone grease onto the threads and especially the O-Ring seal. This will enable a better seal since the water pressure will try to force water past these zones. If you have some moisture absorbers you should place them into a sealed plastic bag along with your batteries and laser... then, after a few hours, you could assemble the unit in the bag and reduce the chances of fogging. A few owners have used them underwater although I'll need a lower power/different spectrum to use when diving as the green is a little too strong and bright for my needs.

Main benefit for the sealed case is so you don't have to worry about debris and moisture or fog juice penetrating the unit. Be sure to avoid touching the outer lens cover unless it's with clean water and/or a microfiber cloth. If you take it in salt water, keep a container of fresh water handy for your exit from the ocean and rinse the unit in the fresh water to remove salt which might otherwise crystallize and cause scratching when removed later. This is the same technique used for cleaning underwater cameras. There's an anti glare coating on the outer lens (the big one) which you should try to protect. This is because the Spyder GX laser outputs up to 300mW +/- and this kind of heat can focus on stains or debris so close to the lens. Keep optics clean.
