Will Technology Affect Warranties?

How might a manufacturer offer service on a defective light who's lamp, cells, circuitry, body, etc. haven't been produced in five or more years? Only so much stock can remain on hand for a given time, so when no parts remain might a deep discount or new light be given in lieu of repair?

With the rapid technological advancements might come a challenge to provide lifetime warranties.
