World torch boost PN2222 transistor ID

I'm trying to source parts from RS components ( http://rswww.com ) to make this -

But I'm having trouble finding the PN2222 transistor on RS. There seems to be lots of different transistors, and I'm not sure what's what ?



Could one of you kind knowledgeable people give me more details on the transistor, or even take a minute on the RS site and find the part no for me.

LOL...you mean you are trying to make your own version of what this noble dude is selling for $5 including shipping? Why not buy it from him or ask him....he is obviously doing these projects at bare cost to benefit as many people in the world as possible. In fact, I'm gonna order his two kits just to support him.

After reading your post I took time to read the rest of the of the worldtorch site. You have a good point Mr Luther. I don't think they ship internationally. So I've emailed them asking how much extra to post to the UK. Hopefully I'll be able to purchase a few of their kits.

Try 2N4401, 2N3904. You might not get similiar results because the PN2222 is a nice moderate current 600ma NPN transistor with good current gain.

For your boost switching purpose I think the Zetex ZTX650 is a better choice. With a bit of overkill - 2amps of continuous current. :naughty:

The RS UK has the Zetex ZTX450 if you want something less.

Direct Link to the P2N2222A or MPS2222A on RS, it's substitutes for PN2222.
