I have a couple of bare 107lm Cree Q5s that I bought for the purpose of upgrading the emitter in my XR19, but I don't consider myself qualified to install the new emitter perfectly in the center of the bulkhead it mounts to. Does anyone here have enough experience doing such things that they feel comfortable getting paid to do it right the first time?

Thank you csshih.

I'm not really accepting any new mods right but this I'll make an exception as it's not that time consuming if you don't find anyone else. I also have a couple of R2 WCs left & Q3 5A if you prefer. I can also bump up the high up to 1A. I'll be out of town the following weekend but I can accomodate you after, send me an email to address in my profile if interested.

EDIT: I've decided to finally make my gallery viewable. Look in my McGizmo folder to see what I have done to them. Don't remember if I have uploaded XR19 builds.

I'm more partial to the Q5 than the R2 -- the R2 is certainly bright, but to my eyes the Q5 has a slight bluish tint and the R2 has a slight greenish tint, which makes the R2 look much more like a cheap fluorescent than the Q5.

A Q3 might be interesting though, as a way to differentiate the usefulness of my XR19 from my Haiku, but the only Q3 I've seen was installed in a Wee NS and the brass reflector changed the beam color. Do you have any beamshots from an XR19 with a Q3 installed in it, preferably compared to a Q5 or an R2? Your gallery didn't appear to have any XR19 headshots or beamshots.

Sorry I don't have beamshots comparing those two. All the pics in my gallery are pics that are posted on CPF or mods that I've done & communicated through PMs. If the communication was done through email (which I prefer) I attach the mod pics in the email. The XR19s must have been through email & I have them somewhere on my HDD.

FYI Q3, Q5, & R2 are brightness bins. Within the bins there are the tint bins. So Q5 WC & R2 WC would generally have the same similar tint only R2 would be brighter. Perhaps you have compared Q5 WC to R2 WG. I find WG green as well. I have R2 WC which is on the cooler side & is a very common/popular tint. Q3 5A is a neutral tint bin. I prefer cooler tints myself but I only picked up these Q3 5As for builds that some had requested, too yellow for me. Do you know what tint bin your Q5s are?

Well, I knew that they were different brightnesses, but I thought that also imposed limitations on the tints they could generate. I wasn't aware that it was possible (at this point, anyway) to get a neutral-white R2, for example, but that the older Q3 didn't produce as much blue light so the phosphors were able to neutralize the tint more effectively.

I don't know what the bin on my Q5s is offhand, but it's whatever LED Supply sells. A quick test suggests they are generally the same slightly-bluish white I'm used to seeing from Q5s.

.... I wasn't aware that it was possible (at this point, anyway) to get a neutral-white R2......

It has been possible to obtain a very white R2 for at least 6 months, if not more!

darkzero changed the default Cree-XRE in the GDuP that I purchased from the Sandwich Shoppe for a R2-WC-XRE at least this long ago.

I can assure you its as white as the snow that is surrounding me at the moment here in the UK!

Hmm. Well, I dunno. The XR19 isn't the brightest light on the shelf (literally speaking), so I doubt I'd see a noticeable difference between the Q5s I already bought and an R2 that I haven't bought yet. I'll just stick with a Q5 since I've already got them on-hand.
