We were thinking Romisen RC-W4, since it looks like it's the brightest 3aaa w/ a nice flood, as reviewed by bessiebenny:

thanks bessiebenny.
However, other than the RC-R4,

it seems that no one ever talk about the these lights that we just found? are they really bad or they are just too new?

The TR-C2 looks so so, but this is the R2 version.

Selection of a light depends upon your needs and usage. Complicating things, your wife is involved and she can't figure out electronics and batteries. Stick with a flashlight that produces the light you need and uses a basic, easily obtainable battery.
If your budget allows, get a basic aa or aaa driven light for your wife and then go wild with your own wants. If you have to compromise AND share the same light, fight over something like a fenix P2D. It's a nice all around edc, great electronics, easy interface, small enough to lose in your wife's purse, and bright enough for most any household task.

while wife is part of the usage, shouldn't that be part of the selection?:broke:
I'm afraid that once the moment is right and I'm ready to showcase my wild one, and it runs out of battery in the middle of rocky mountain, and end up using hers to find our way home.

So basically, I think we need a small powerful one that has nice spill and use common battery.

NPT,

I have one XJC B-12 Cree but I cannot recommend you one over those you mentioned. I don't have any.

I can compare the B-12 to Smartfire V-68C which I happen to own.

The B-12 is heavy, it's laquered, not anodised. The edges of the bezel crown are sharp. The mnachining is adequate. I cleaned the threads and contact surfaces but haven't done any other "post-production editing".

The action of the switch is OK by me, it needs a light touch which might be appreciated by you wife.

The smartfire is obviously way brighter, expectedly. The light spot from the B-12 is a bit ringy but the tint is warmer than that of the V-68C.

I measured the current in the B-12. It's about 0.4 A.

I didn't expect anything extraordinary from this torch, I didn't suppose it would be a useless piece of aluminium. It's OK. I might keep it and chuck it in the car or give it to my mother-in-law ;-) (a tad to heavy though).
